    ebike build from scratch

For some mad reason I thought they would come assembled as a set. I was a bit nervous cutting the forks down as I didn't want to get that wrong so practised cutting a small amount off first then measured and cut to a slightly longer length so I can put a 5mm spacer above the stem too as some...

    Upside down?!

Yes it does, why not put it on the left? afterall you will be changing gear all the time with the right anyway.

    ebike build from scratch

Turns out the forks don't come assembled to the frame so I need to buy a headset bearing. I then needed a special tool to seat the lower part called a crown race onto the fork so to overcome purchasing a special tool I used a piece of plastic tube with small slits cut down the sides to allow for...

    ebike build from scratch

I liked the colour from as soon as I saw it online and it looks better in real life as it's a kind of metallic effect. I am going for a rear hub motor.

    ebike build from scratch

The next bike project is to build a light ebike from scratch, not even a donor bike to start with, just a new frame and parts I already have in my garage which never got fitted to upgrade my current bike and purchase the least I can, I think I have enough parts. I do need to buy a frame though...

Will be interesting to see if they keep the finger tips warm on a frosty cold day.

Conditioning a new battery - what to *really* expect in range

My battery struggles a bit in colder temperatures too. Just fully charge it each day, as there is more power in the higher voltages which is handy in the morning.

    My first Ebike Conversion

Wow Fast......... (too fast for me !!) You'll need to make it look like your pedalling like mad at those speeds to avoid unwanted attention. How do you find the heavy motor on the front affects the handling/steering compared to normal? What 10s Lipo's did you use for the test run?

Riding postion is it significantly important?

I got told in a bike shop that as a rough frame size guide, when you look down at the front axle it should be seen at aprox the middle of the stem or atleast within the stem area. This might help - or if you have an original bike which was comfortable then this might help to transfer the...

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

On the front I have a soft grippy wafer thin tyre with slime in it, and only had about 2 punctures needing repair in over 15'000 miles. When I went to fix it I found a few others where the slime had been working for me. So that's a possible alternative. I also read on Sheldon Brown's website a...

What's the Q128C like at low speeds?

I have a brand new one laced up in a 700C rim but it's the 145mm wide version so you need to give the drop outs a bit of a heevehoo to get it in. I rode it up the road once just to check it worked, then was going to change my current motor for it when it wears out but it's still going so haven't...

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

Here is the route I found and planned online with Viewranger. It runs very near a road I've cycled on a lot and didn't know this was there. Shame it's not that long and this is as rough as it gets. Part of an old abandoned railway line originally.

    Night Riders - Canal Routes

Here's the towpath I found, proper deep mud with lots of high tree roots. This section of the canal (to the side)has long since been dried up. The bike tyre marks in the mud were already there before me too. This would be great fun at night.
