    Batteries from the USA

Wai Wong Ching, the head of Ezee, explains here that the LiFePO4 batteries that they have so far tested have failed to live up to the hype surrounding them, so often the case with new technologies.

    Sustrans Win!!

Details of the connect 2 schemes by region are here Tim. I think the aim of the overall project is to give more people the ability to use (or connect to) the existing facilities rather than a large increase in route miles which is an ongoing Sustrans activity anyway.

    Batteries from the USA

Of more interest is their 400 farad 48V capacitor system. Quick mental calculations suggest that the energy released in discharging it from 48V to 32V would be roughly equal to that stored in a 4Ah 36V battery. And even I would be satisfied if it reached a quarter of its claimed life of half a...

    Batteries from the USA

Nice find Harry but I wonder if they can stand the required discharge rates, the max is not quoted and the examples of uses shown are all low current applications. My german is Rubbish but heres a machine translation of the spec. "Detailed description of article: Mono cell (type D) with a...

    Fell Off

It does happen, and not always due to mechanical faults. Last week I had just filled my car with diesel when I witnessed another 'customer' drive off without paying, I was so distracted by this that I forgot to replace the the fuel cap. The result was a minor spillage on the first left hand...

    Cost of electric bikes

I'm not convinced the Li-ion problems are confined to the Ezee batteries Harry. Every single rechargeable lithium I've ever dealt with in many different applications has failed to meet the manufacturers claims, the latest being my 1 year old Dell laptop with I believe a Sony battery, 100 charge...

    Cost of electric bikes

Time will tell, and I hope we have a long wait to find out:) I personally will need a lot of convincing though, based on my ongoing experiences with Li-ion batteries in other less demanding applications. The main point I'm trying to make though, is that owners should expect to have to replace...

    Japan Bicycle Promotion Institute

There's some interesting pdf's on this site, of particular interest are the Panasonic brochure with details of their homegrown offerings both powered and unpowered, the Sanyo e-bike brochure, the Bridgestone brochure showing details of it's belt drive bicycles and the brochure from Otec Research...

    What Bike Computer

Speed's not everything footie, I prefer long range. The computer is handy for monitoring that as well though. The mirror is also handy. For me there was no looking back after purchasing one.:D

    Cost of electric bikes

I think with any lithium powered bike the battery life is going to be the limiting factor preventing 4 years reliable service. Every single Li-ion battery I have ever dealt with in a wide range of applications has been down to 50% or less capacity after 2 years regardless of manufacturer or...

Fell off bike, landed on head

One of my favorite TV programs is Discovery channels Mythbusters. Here's Jamie Hyneman from the show demonstrating appropriate headgear while riding his Wavecrest Tidalforce, and this is a link to a video of Tory Belechi also from the show demonstrating one way of going over the bars.

    Cost of electric bikes

Most of lincolnshire is ideal Ezee Torq country, and the Torq does have a threadless headset, but the forks are wider than standard to take the motor. With care and some input from yourself a Torq should deliver well over 30 miles per charge in flat country, my personal best is 50 miles...

    Rusty spokes

Most bikes these days have stainless steel spokes which will not rust, obviously yours does not. However this does not necessarily indicate weakness, bikes and other vehicles managed for 100 years before stainless spokes were widely used.

Sorry to hear of all those problems but some, like the colour coding problem, while it doesn't make it excusable, are common on Chinese products, and others like the non-Shrader valve type, which will be a Presta, much favoured by serious cyclists and certainly not old fashioned, cannot really...

Fell off bike, landed on head

I'm not too familiar with paragliding helmets so I'm not sure what they use as an energy absorbing medium which is obviously an important part of a cycle helmet. I know that the Bell cycle helmets styled a bit like a paragliding helmet and favoured by some downhillers use a normal rigid...

    Cost of electric bikes

I think the majorty of e-bike purchases are by casual users at the bottom end of the price bracket with no intent of serious use, quality is unimportant to these users as the bike will only get a few rides before rusting away at the back of a shed, this "toy"market is about a close to a mass...

Fell off bike, landed on head

Mmmnn, I don't see many Tour-de France riders wearing paragliding helmets. This in a sport where speeds are high, accidents are frequent and R&D budgets to give the rider the best tools for job are virtually unlimited.

    Cost of electric bikes

I've no personal experience of Wisper bikes but the pictures I've seen do show cheap cycle parts, there was also a 905se on ebay recently, the large pictures clearly showing a cheap swaged crankset. My Ezee Torq has decent cycle bits, Shimano Sora & Nexus, Tektro, Dia-Compe and Weinmann rims...

    £100 practical or not??

Obviously the bike described in your other thread is an attempt to do this. Something like that is probably the only way you're going to achieve it, but in addition to the expected costs you should budget for a replacement battery as this will almost certainly be life expired and given the small...

    Help needed!!

I doubt you'll get a charger for £17, you'll probably have to pay at least twice that with P&P. You should also consider whether the charger really is damaged, or whether it's non-existent, which may cast doubts on the bikes origin.
