    Just for info.

Probably 68Km with 2300m climbing, have been further and climbed higher but not at the same time. Yamaha Haibike with extender battery.

    Cyclamatic???

I don't think that wll climb the hills round Tow Law.

    Giant FSA "custom" crankset.

I've had it (chainsuck) on my Yamaha Haibike, only happens when you shift before the motor cuts out. I try to make sure that I am in the correct chainring before the going gets tough, if I'm climbing I'm on the small chainring. Of course it can be tricky to get this right but you soon become...

    Back ache

If your back is too straight you feel the hits more, is the seat at the correct height, are the handlebars too high? Just another couple of options.

    Bike cuts out

Not necessarily true, the battery could be fine if it had a chance to charge up fully. If the charger is only putting out 36V the battery has no chance of being any higher.

    Allbatteries spare battery problem

If it is the same as a standard Yamaha battery you may not get full voltage at the battery terminals until it is on the bike and switched on. Mine will read 38ish V until it is switched on then goes up to 41.something. I measure mine at an external connector I have fitted to connect my extender...

    Charging problems

Open circuit voltage with a digital multimeter is meaningless.

Changing a cassette on an e-bike/ granny gear!

Ok with you as long as the actual speed remains the same.

Changing a cassette on an e-bike/ granny gear!

I understand that and have done the same with my Haibike for use in the mountains but I thought with a hub motor if you are going too slowly then the motor is less efficient and generates more heat.

Changing a cassette on an e-bike/ granny gear!

Won't going even slower just mean the motor becomes less efficient necessitating another lower gear which will make the motor less efficient ad infinitum?

    Hi from County Durham

Do let us know what you go for and how it performs.

    Parallel or separate for batteries.

Less voltage sag, fewer deep discharges, potentially longer life.

    Hi from County Durham

I don't think a 250w geared hub will be able to maintain anywhere near 10mph on the hills around Tow Law! I only have limited experience of geared hub motors but do know the hills around Tow Law well. I do know the geared hub motors (Q100) I have ridden have had nowhere near enough power to deal...

Waterproofing bike wire to avoid the walk of shame

You will not seal it, water will get in. When it gets in it needs to get out. I have lost count of the times I have come across this sort of thing in my professional career. Silicone sealant will work for a while but will not work like a proper potting compound. We used to join burried cables...

Waterproofing bike wire to avoid the walk of shame

That box will do nothing apart from keeping the water in. There is no way you will get that gland to seal all of those small cables effectively. Soldering instead of connectors is good, glued heat shrink is good, self amalgamating tape is good. Unless you have exposed connectors / conductors and...
