Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

You're right, on both counts, it's confusing the way Schwalbe have branded these tyres with some changes I think to the terminology and how the tyres are made.. I think the difference between the HS420 "original" compared to the HS348 "Plus" is that the HS420 only has 3mm of rubber and the Plus...

Controller and Speedict wiring Now I've got my tyres sorted out, I'm turning my attention to the wiring side of things.. The wiring on the controllers is a bit messy with all the connectors, and not practical for easily removing off the bike for ease of carrying. So what I plan to do is to...

    More snow!!!

Here in the heart of the Midlands, Worcestershire, the snow is falling again for the second day or third day in a row..and it's falling heavy at moment!!.. yesterdays snow didn't stay on the roads or paths thankfully, despite quite a lot falling..the temperature is a bit warmer and it's been...

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

Flecc is the Marathon HS420 the "Plus" version? Looking at the description, it does seem to be the case: I have the Marathon Plus on my 26" and I've just received a new pair of the old Marathon HS368 with "Kelvar Guard" and my impression is that the Plus/HS420 are a significantly improved...

Marathon HS368 v HS420 Today I receive the 2 new Marathon HS368's tyres, 16" 1.35 inch. Ordered y'day afternoon with next day delivery from SJS Cycles, how's that for service! Looking at them, they look like any ordinary tyres, nothing special about them inside and they look thin and flimsy...

BMW to enter electric scooter market

Interesting explanation flecc and that puts it into a proper industrial and economic context. I guess with the challenges ahead of Co2 reduction targets and more sustainable transport, the academics at the leading universities will be looking at and working on renewable energy sources and...

Solid / Puncture Proof Tyres any advice please?

I can't imagine why anyone would put solid tyres onto a bicycle. That would be horrible to ride surely? Solid tyres are more for golf trolleys, wheelchairs etc. There's good puncture resistant tyres available and other measures you can take without the drastic step of solid tyres and...

    CST - it's all working

Ah sorry Alex, I just sold my last one to someone who asked on another thread else I would have let you have it for cost price. Glad d8veh has one spare for you anyway.

BMW to enter electric scooter market

Definitely so, I think perhaps the battery technology is progressing very slowly and even lagging a bit.. why is that? Perhaps a lack of willingness to fund R&D by big corps who don't see it as a viable market to justify the R&D costs, or perhaps just due to practical technological...

I think these will be fine.. I've got the Marathon Plus road slicks with thinner width than normal MTB tyres on my 26" which have even less tread than these 16" and even they're ok on the same gravel tracks I use..not as good as the original knobbly MTB tyres, but ok for occasional use on loose...

I decided to play it safe and went for the Schwalbe Marathon HS368 which has the older Kevlar belt protection which according to some reviews is better than the new Plus rubber layer, in terms of rolling resistance. I tend to ride on gravel and dirt tracks a bit in the summer and didn't want...

Thanks I'll have a look for the Kenda inners.. do you have anything good/bad to say about the Brompton tyres? I've seen those are available (green and yellow label versions)..these tend to get favourable reviews but they seem very pricey and not sure of the weight and what puncture protection...

Thanks, very interesting reading! Answered a lot of things I always wondered about and makes choosing a tyre a lot easier. Even some tips for fitting :)

So you reckon they would offer minimal protection then for punctures due to the low weight? Waste of time?

Kojack v Marathon I'm about to order new tyres for my Mezzo and can't decide whether to go for the Marathon GreenGuard or Kojacks slicks with the Kevlar RaceGuard protection. (I think you can also get Marathon Plus now in 16" 349mm but they're a bit pricey..I have Marathon Plus on my 26" and...

This is an interesting little gadget: Digital LCD Clock Thermometer & Car Voltage It has an alarm feature if the temperature drops below a certain level to protect battery. I suspect the voltage monitoring is only for 12v though..doesn't say.

    DHL Duty & Vat charges

You make some fair points here Alex about the Speedict and whether it is value for money. It's not exactly cheap is it, so it has to work reliably and offer maximum flexibility and control options.. On the surface it looks like an incredible piece of technology that takes e-bikes forward, but...

    Helmets again

I've always been anti-helmets and would never wear one of those dreadful looking things, but I saw one the other week which is the most discrete and sensibly designed cycle helmet I've ever seen which might even tempt me into wearing one! I wish I could remember the brand/site, I think I may...

    BH Emotion E-bikes..availability in UK?

I'm a very busy guy these days so don't have as much time as I used to, seems I missed the Emotion discussions.. I'm not interested in buying a BH bike anyway, but was interested in their Neo LCD console and Bluetooth technology and wondered if it's unique to their Emotion bikes or sold...
