    Birmingham Bike Show

d8veh, The Oxygen Emate City does seem like a very nice bike and it looks a lot like my FreeGo Eagle in looks and spec. I notice that in some advertising it is referred to as "The Beast". I take it that the OEC is strictly road legal in the UK? I hope you are not too worn out at the end of the...

Bike clothing etc at Aldi and elsewhere

As well as 18 lbs lighter (in 6 weeks), I am also about £60 lighter having visited Aldi today. I am not complaining because I am very pleased with my purchases: Cycling shoes (SPD compatible if required)-very comfortable despite the rigid sole. 2 pairs of winter cycling socks (lovely and...

    Advice about conversion kit, plee

d8veh, I have read that catastrophic failure of rear dropouts can be a potential problem on some alloy framed donor bikes. Is this something to be concerned about prior to choosing a suitable bike for conversion? Despite the higher mechanical efficiency of a donor hardtail bike, I would much...

Going up Pikes Peak fast on a DIY electric bike

Adam Griffin's homemade hub-motored electric bike beat all other 2 wheelers to the top of Pikes Peak (2012) including five $13,000+ Optibikes. He finished third overall behind two trikes. This is a more standard Optibike: Optibike 600T | eBay Pikes Peak on a DIY electric bike Crushing...

Before you buy a new electric bike-some important considerations

Geebee, You are correct, my apologies to one and all for the misinformation. I am afraid that it was that well known Law of S** intervening via a binding rear brake and confusing the hub drag issue. Is it possible to edit my original post? I cannot see an edit button for it, presumably...

Before you buy a new electric bike-some important considerations

d8veh, You are correct as usual! After watching the two videos I gave the rear wheel a spin and discovered a binding rear brake. I slackened it off and all is now well. Sorry about the misinformation. I will double-check this "hub drag" with a ride tomorrow. gray198, You had better check that...

Before you buy a new electric bike-some important considerations

gray198, Thanks for confirming that it was not a figment of my imagination about the motor drag on the Eagle. I somehow doubt whether the drag will lessen with use but I could be wrong.

Before you buy a new electric bike-some important considerations

Geebee, I can only speak about my own experiences on my FreeGo Eagle. On the flat the drag is very noticeable, compared to nil resistance with the Bighit. However, going down a slight incline with the Eagle overcomes this drag and it then becomes hardly noticeable.

Make a note in your diary for Aldi's Special Cycling offers on Thursday 27th September from 8.00 to 20.00: ALDI - Coming Soon - Cycling My Lycra-clad cycling club neighbour tells me that Aldi's cycling tights are more efficient (and several times cheaper than big name brands). For the...

    Bighit battery querie

Frank, My Tonaro voltage readings are about on a par with your ones. I recharged the battery and it read 42.4v initially. I did a 7 mile trip (using maximum assist) and the battery read 37.6v. The first 2 miles is uphill and the rest is fairly flat plus a long downhill. I should add...
