Yep sounds like a cheap knock off. I used a BBB extender years ago and it was fine. If you are anxious about an extender, do you already have an adjustable stem? I've used the Ritchey one, comes in 3 lengths, can adjust the angle to suit. Rock solid.

UPDATE For anyone who stumbles on this. It turns out synchronisation between kiox and phone was a very common problem. Today Bosch released a software update for Kiox (v4) which includes routing, and fixes to synchronisation. Installed that, and today at least, it is working like a charm...
