    broken saddle

Bike dealers are not alone in needing a little "formal" reminding of the very powerful Consumers Rights Act 2015, and it sharpens their response to be told the ramifications of ignoring it. Good result and a service to us all for pushing it.

Dynamos and hub dynamos, Battery charging

I have wondered what the logic is in having electric bike lights powered by a dynamo, when there is a battery on board? My wife's Kalkhoff Agattu being a case. All I can think is safety for getting home in the dark after flattening the battery.

I'm new to e-bikes and have lots to learn...

Can you configure Google maps to "work" without a data connection, something in my preferred rural ride areas is not available? This is why, on the road I use MAPS ME, even if having planned in other ways where I can access OS, Google maps etc.

I'm new to e-bikes and have lots to learn...

If you use the "app" MAPS ME on your phone or tablet and fathom out how to ask it for a route for a "cycle", it will by and large use cycling routes as well as lower traffic use minor roads. This app once installed does not need a phone data connection, it allows you to download local maps onto...

    Disregarding UK pedelec laws

Because the kinetic energy involved is related to the speed squared? So, going from 15.5 mph to only 20 mph results in 66% more energy.

    Kalkoff

For my "good lady" I would definitely hang in with the Agutu for its use of the Nexus hub gears, and with that, the more robust chain, one she is unlikely to ever get jumping off. They don't get best pleased putting them back on!

Why has the Nexus 8 speed hub gear not caught on?

Yes and yes. But I like our Nexus 8, used together with its Gates belt a lot more.

    Lidl e-Scooter

Not an e-bike but related and could cause us issues when these are so readily available. Or is it just me who thinks these will cause issues, and possibly harm? Their promo sheet said from the 19th inst. On that you need a magnifying glass to read it is illegal on highways, including roads...

    Help! Numb Hands

Would those so-called "butterfly" bars so favoured by the Dutch help? They give you a wide range of holding options.

    Agattu 11 impulse power problem

You have "woken-up" the battery, by pressing its button? These go to sleep if not use for several days but I expect you are well aware of that.

    Bike Transport

I for decades have had Defender 110s and for the last 14 years a Disco3-4, where I have used a plank with three and in later years two fork clamps screwed to it in the fashion of this link: http://williampedalson.blogspot.com/2012/05/minivan-bike-rack_27.html Being an engineer with access to a...

    kalkhoff battery lock

Ours is a 2016 Kalkhoff Agattu and we have never to my knowledge ever used the key when installing the battery, just positively click it into place. And it is fitted and replaced after every ride, so done a couple of hundred or so times. Clearly we need the key to get it out. I recall the...

    Which bike under 1500

IMO that is absolutely essential, as is trying several different ones as the "feel" can be so different. I suspect the first one you try will "impress", but that is not the same thing as knowing that it is the best suited to you.

Time to face facts and get myself an 'E' road bike ?

Resist buying till you have tried a few, it is too easy to be initially seduced by e-bikes but IMO wise to develop a bit wider understanding of the differences model to model, technology to technology.

    Giant Ebikes

I was taking a long detailed look at the Giant DailyTour in the Liv dealers this Wednesday, and liked what I saw. My wife's Kalkhoff 2015 Agattu features the belt drive with 8 speed Nexus which is a lovely set up and avoids her getting messed up with oil, so they're a big plus. It seems removing...

    Street legal

My view too, though what the police may or may not throw at you fades into total irrelevance compared to the life changing "damages" that a court might lumber you with, should any third party be made a paraplegic.

    Impulse torque sensor

"You can get a replacement motor for about £450 from these guys. https://www.pro-cycling-golla.de/E-Bike_Ersatzteile_/_Antriebe/Impulse_I___II/Motor_und_Zubehör.html" vfr400, Do you think their latest Impulse 2.3 variant has made any significant improvement in the Impluse 2 reliability?

Does getting an e-bike mean you eventually give up "conventional" bikes??

My convention road bike fits comfortably in the hack car, whereas the E-bike is a bit of a struggle and only fits in the SUV. Plus, if going where it needs leaving for longer than a "coffee stop", one would be a lot less distressing to lose than the other, so the conventional bike still gets a...

Something small for the London Overground

Nor was I in suggesting a Brompton thinking the electric version. I actually don't follow their thinking of going electric either, goes counter to its portability the only real reason for the bike, IMO. Maybe they see a cash rich, must have owner, type of market and feel it is worth taking their...

Something small for the London Overground

Really the same point as "flecc", why for such two short journeys and the train transporting issue, are you thinking an ebike? To my thinking this is a basic Brompton task at which it excels and probably for no more money, less if an ebay or like offering.
