    Cut wires to battery?

Depends on what type of wires they are, if it's just coloured wires they can be soldered and then heat shrink sleeving over the joins. Otherwise it's a case of contacting a Carrera dealer to get the wiring harnesses. Hopefully you won't need to replace the controller.

    Brakes.

Never had any issues with my hydraulic brakes when turning the bike upside down, although it's best not to touch the brake levers while the wheels are off.

Can you pay £140-200 for a cable disc brake? l would imagine most choose cable disc brakes for the lower cost and at that price you could get something like a Shimano XT hydraulic disc setup.

    Brakes.

Cable discs, at least the single piston ones, need regular adjustments to keep them working well. l adjusted mine less than 200 miles ago, and already they need the calipers re aligned because the pads have worn. My hydraulic disc brakes have done over 3,000 miles and l've never touched them...

    Brakes.

Modern brakes on bikes are generally very good, whatever type is fitted. The brakes continue to work even with minimal or no maintenance. Remember the days when you had to regularly adjust your rim brakes so the pads aligned with the rim? And if you got it wrong, or didn't carry out the...

    Brakes.

l didn't say cable disc brakes were as good as hydraulics, they're not. What l meant was, once l set up my cable disc brakes properly (so the pads were aligned with the discs, cables adjusted, disc as close as possible to the inside pad) they worked well. Before that, they were poor, and l...

Branded cable disc brakes can be good, the Clarke's cable discs on my folding ebike work very well (once l set them up properly)

New e bikes with small ah batteries

lf you're worried about excessive cell current draw, maybe avoid the highest assist level? My folding ebike has five assist levels and it's perfectly fine on level 3, although l turn it up on hills, only because l want to go as fast as the bike will let me. l never use the maximum 300% assist...

New e bikes with small ah batteries

My Mirider has a 7Ah battery, if l thrash it the battery can be empty in around 12 miles. Being a bit more careful (but still riding at the assist limit speed) l've done 18 miles before the battery expired. l guess if you used the lower assist levels and on flatter ground (it's all hills round...

    KT controller question

Okay, so l must have a geared hub then. Thank you for the information, l will forget the "regeneration" settings. I did manage to activate the "cruise" control though l am unlikely to use it tbh. Quite novel though, just sitting there while the bike trundles along at 15mph l also found a...

    KT controller question

My Mirider is fitted with the KT LCD5 controller. l've been in the setup menu and there's an option to turn on regenerative braking. lt's set to "off" in the settings. lf l turn this on, will the motor supply power to the battery when slowing down? l think it's a feature that isn't allowed on...

    Replacement E-Bike

Yes l was getting around 700 miles from a chain before it reached the 0.5 wear limit on the chain checker. However l've started using only GT-85 on my chain, after every ride. Not only does the cassette/jockey wheels etc look pristine (no black gunge) but l am now getting well over 1,000 miles...

    Replacement E-Bike

l've got the Shimano E8000 system on my ebike, currently on just under 3,300 miles after 13 months But l've never broken a chain on any bike, 13,000 miles on my Mondraker non-electric mountain bike, 3,000 on a Kona Tanuki before that. l don't back off when changing up through the gears on the...

    Replacement E-Bike

l never thought about the added wear to the drive train (over hub drive) l've gone through three chains, two cassettes and a set of jockey wheels in 3,000 miles.

    Replacement E-Bike

lf you liked the Bosch motor, why not buy one of the Cube Ebikes with the Gen 4 Bosch. They start at around £2,000 so a bit dearer than your average hub motor ebike but they are lovely bikes and a step up in quality.

    Disc brake issues

Thank you l will definitely have a look at them. My post should read ".....unless you SET them up really carefully" not STOP them up really carefully !!
