    Kalkhoff 2014 e-bikes

I've done 15.2 wh/mile at 17.5 mph, but with a huge headwind on 3/5ths of the ride and 3700 feet of ascent.

Just the job for one of those light rear hub motors. http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/taipei-cycle-show-swiftcarbon-debuts-sub-700g-sculp-road-frame-40251/

I don't normally like flat pack, but....

I take it that it is the power delivery that does that to you? and not just the way the bike feels? A trapped tube isn't actually a pinch flat, that's when a obstacle compresses the tyre to the rim and pinches the tube, you get two punctures, also know as a snakebite.

    Riese & Muller Delite 2

Of course having lots of gears is good when your battery is flat, I try to avoid that at all costs. 60 miles is very impressive, I'd need 25 a/h for that, but then again perhaps the hills in these parts are bigger. Although you can't be that far off here. If you're close perhaps you can go and...

A good point, the riders could also be 4 times stronger than riders who ride none racing bikes.

Donor Bike for a new e-bike Conversion

I can't agree with that, sure for rim brakes they are good, but they're not self adjusting and they're not very good in wet weather, and not that long lasting either.

    Ebike - long range

    Exactly. I don't see the £2,000 bike, all I see is a £600 bike.

    Ebike - long range

I could probably get through a 40 ah battery in 70 miles if I chose a really hilly route around here in full power.

    Ebike - long range

I can't imagine anyone paying that much for that bike, way way over-priced for a cheap Chinese bike.

I thought that would be the case, you'd need a very oversize steerer to allow a big enough hole to allow the batteries to pass through. Cheers :)

I think it's fair to say that we all already know that, you gave the impression that the forks wouldn't have to be removed, but it's now clear that you don't actually know if they do or don't.

They have a steerer tube with a hole in then?

    Ebike - long range

I can have a D-lock and spare battery (5 kgs) in one pannier and not even notice it at all. If your extra 1.4 kgs ish in a central position on your bike has such an effect it would suggest to me that the bike isn't very balanced in the first place.

Go to a local hill climb time trial evening and you may actually find yourself being embarrassed by not being able to keep up with the fastest riders.

I think there's a perception that all e-bikes are slow Chinese made things that aren't really proper bikes. Clearly that perception is changing. and my bike is considered slow, low powered and a poor climber in e-bike circles. How fast would I be on one of these more powerful machines that...

It is perhaps more for those who aspire to move up to be like a sports bike rider. Sports bike riders still view e-bikes as cheating and say they would never ride an e-bike. Perhaps one day that attitude will change?

The picture lower down on this page with the cable hanging down like an afterthought still makes the bike look oddly proportioned to me. http://annad.en.alibaba.com/product/857180345-218567348/700C_30_speed_gears_Electric_Road_Bike.html I can't help thinking that a last years sale bike and a...

I like the idea of going back to a bike with drops, but imagine the market for that type of bike will be tiny compared to straight bars.

The bikes look a bit odd in the pictures, the geometry mainly. I like the concept though, one of those road versions could suit me better than my current bike. You really need to try before you buy.
