Ebike drive choice for commute and touring

Rear hub motor and mid drive: Electrics fail bike still works - both types Chain breaks motor still works (PAS or throttle) - rear hub only One of my favorite ideas is a pinion gearbox with a rear hub motor. Much better weight distribution than either front hub or rear hub, lighter than...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Silly Austin Powers joke Dan: "Sharks with friggin' lasers" I thought that HM Army might have taken up the idea and adapted to horses...:p

Ebike drive choice for commute and touring

The only one that is not recommended is the Alfine 11 speed, a Rohloff is designed to handle 110 Nm of torque. Them being German they may have a security margin on that number... Front drive is a very un-bike like ride if you have done a few km on ordinary bikes. Personal taste I guess but I...

Big Ben Plus - Whos rolling on these babies?

I am waiting on a pair of 20" probably being delivered tomorrow :) the rear wheel is getting a normal one because the plus version wasn't in stock in 26". I have had ordinary Big Bens on Number Two for over a year and I love them. Comfort and grip, they are really sticky and I have total...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

How about you do a group ride through town with the motors turned off. Get the press out. If plod intervenes you can say "It can't be a motorbike if it isn't using a motor"... You need to heap scorn and ridicule on the politicians who let this kind of cr.p happen. And my thoughts on the...

    Insurance for e-bikes

Just back from my insurer to insure the new bike (and continue the old) - 40€ / yr for 4500 €. They start to get expensive when you have a bike worth 7,500 €, the premium goes up to 160 € /yr.

    Installed throttle, battery life murdered?

PAS does go to max Amps if your hills are steep enough, trust me. A throttle uses more Amps more often, even when you don't need assistance, and you are providing about 70-100 W yourself with PAS even if you are a lousy peddler.

How very eccentric! I can imagine the headlines "Man, 65, dies of suffocation while pedaling his bicycle in full face motorcycle helmet"...

Turnigy Graphene, has anybody used them?

    Probably a bit more I think, 10000 mAh should be between 3.2 V and 4.2 V.

Turnigy Graphene, has anybody used them?

Just did a full charge of my 10 Ah packs, first in quite some time: I put 8937 mAh in from "empty" - 3.654 V per cell up to 4.15 V per cell, 58 minute charge time at 1C. That is about 89.4% of nominative capacity, you can expect 90% of nominative capacity because my LiPo alarm hadn't gone off...

    Battery Chargers

Will the cells in your pack accept higher charging Amps? The popular Samsung 30Q will accept 4 Amps rapid charge. Rapid charge will mean a cell life of about 300 charges compared to up to 600 at 2 Amps.

Dynamo Hub on Ebike? / Permanent Lights

I must be one of the many BMS battery clients that replied to the e-mail asking if I was satisfied with my order: "yes but the controller should have a light output". :)

    Considering the 500w BPM kit

Just re-read the BMS battery page for the first time in a while, the in battery controller isn't up to 500W... Shame it is a very clean solution. You want 500W because you are a big chap?

Dynamo Hub on Ebike? / Permanent Lights

You can buy b+m e-bike lights which plug into the battery and work from 6 to 42 V and also have daytime running lights. As you go up in the range you have lights that work from 6 to 70 V and others that change automatically from day to night time power depending on ambiant light captured by a...

    Considering the 500w BPM kit

I wouldn't consider a front wheel drive bike for hill climbing, we have hills in the Basque Country too where I have tried one but only on a dry day. I can foresee problems in the wet because I had slippage in the dry... Look at this...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Macron = well educated with no common sense... He had a chance to modernise the French Code de travail which is industrial age, I think that he has blown it. He could have kept the industrial age bit for the concerned sectors (there is still some industry left here) and add a second Code de...

    15mph assistance limit

EU pedelec limit actually :) Adopted by the UK road code, well almost all of the UK... In my youth I used to ride twice as fast un-powered on a racing bike as I do now. No speedos back then it was car drivers who gave me my speed when they caught up with me at the red lights. First...
