    Do You Insure Your Bike

My public liability insurance is extended to "everywhere" as well as theft insurance instead of just at home. I can't afford to lose 2500 €. 6.67 € a month seems a small price to pay for 2 bikes worth over 3500 € to replace, they are my only means of transport.

    Insurance for e-bikes

There was a mistake in my previous post, the insurance company sent me my new contract: The 40 € was for the new bike so in total both bikes cost 80 € / year to insure (4574 € maximum value), so 6.67 € a month.

Should Speed Sensor Touch The Disc? - New Bike

That is the PAS not the speed sensor. It is best if there is an air gap, you will end wearing the plastic off the sensor. Mine has about 2/10ths of a mm space, it did touch but it wasn't an issue.

    Crank or Rear Hub?

If you use your gears with a hub motor you get more range but it does allow you to be more lazy if you wish (gear changing lazy I mean).

New battery technology. If or When?

OK so you are thinking of alternative chemistry. Technology means also the form factor. New chemistry is being invented every second week it seems. The stakes are high and lots of R&D is being funded. I have a friend physicist and she was working on this 20 years ago! Then we have...

    Folding pedals

Haas pedals look the best and I am using them for inspiration, they are +£27 a pedal on a UK site... The plan is a Zefal toe clip and bungee cord, with or without webbing, to be decided. I can ride for hours on my tadpole but when you try and relax you have to keep your feet on the pedals...

    Walk mode.

Yes I use it just about every time I go to GF's house. There is a steep ramp (or two depending on route) from an underpass up onto a bridge. The KT controller gives about 30 W in walk mode. Don't bother trying when you are sitting on the bike, it isn't enough to get moving :)

    Folding pedals

I am building a set of pedals with toe clips and straps or I should say when DHL releases my box from bad logistics hell, three days from Germany to Biarritz where they have been holding it hostage for 4 days... My design could possibly be adapted to folding pedals, I will be posting photos...

    Crank or Rear Hub?

Having done the two much of a muchness... Hub: dropouts need attention in many cases, torque arm needs to be fitted on aluminium frame. You keep your front derailleur, rear derailleur and cassette if they are the correct width. You may have to stretch the frame a little Crank : you need the...

Which kit? 12 mile range, 20mph, hub motor, city bike

Hand filing aluminium is not a time consuming task. A steady hand and a keen eye are all you need. I hand filed out steel dropouts to fit my motor and it took all of 5 minutes.
