however, inflation has been hovering around 4.6% to 1% over the past 6 years http://inflation.stephenmorley.org/ and ive had tracker mortgage with HSBC thats base rate plus 0.5 % (so 1% until this month, and 0.75 now), so it's entirely possible to make money by having debt. While I agree...

too true. and of course the uk economy is an absolute zenith of ethics https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/aug/06/bhs-pension-deficit-sir-philip-green-sort-it the plan is evidently to not do anything about bhs pensions until the public forgets, and the tories can quietly dip their hands in...

oh no bud, we wont "end up with a black eye", we'll end up picking up our teeth with broken fingers, as they say back in Africa..and look at the news, EU growth is bearing up OK despite Brexit

inasmuch as pension funds will take a hit I agree. but the cut in interest rates was due to the biggest cut in the growth forecast in the UK since the BoE was created. what else was he to do? many were surprised the MPC didn't introduce a negative interest rate. however none of it will prevent...

I wish you were right Flud. I'd much rather be wrong on an anonymous ebike forum than take the financial hit I've taken since Brexit. I have a strong hunch we've all taken a serious hit. The profit you made on the property in France is due to a devaluing of the pound - and of everything you own...

the water will have to get a great deal hotter before this particular bunch of (it must be said not very sentient) frogs realise they're in a saucepan..

the odd thing is that the public seem so utterly oblivious to the frights http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/08/03/ftse-100-to-open-lower-hsbc-gets-pummelled-and-next-faces-higher/ i guess it has to become a consumer reality first

however, tidal lagoons apparently produce reliable baseloads for 14 out of every 24 hours. but sadly i suspect not anywhere near 7% of uk national consumption. that IS surprising, Tilson's ancestor getting into an accidental fracas, and with a lady, and "about two jugs")!

it will be interesting to see how the Hinckley point china stand off ends. I suspect she is in part a control freak, which may not necessarily be a bad thing. But I'm afraid making a success of brexit may not be an option and the deluded public may not take kindly to the kind of catastrophes...

this is a bit of an oblique reply, but as the pound heads for parity with the euro (factor in BoE saying the next year will be 0% growth in UK, in other words "recession, probably awful, but we cant say it")...

for what my very 2P is worth, i foudn the only redeeming feature in education a few in retropsect crucial relationships with teachers and lecturers. But otside of these in a very authoritarian, repressed system back in africa it was very largely a complete waste of time. And teh relationships...

in Africa that bottleneck occurs in ones final year of school in which one either gets university exemption, or not (in which case to be blunt one can be screwed, IMHO, more so in the socially unsupportive reality that is Africa). So it becomes Darwinian and one either pulls finger or not.

yes, mine struggles to reach anything over 50 with only me in it (and I went and bought one a fraction of the value of a Messerschmitt). What was a 250cc excelsior talisman like? I read it was bored open to make the Berkeley (who then added another cylinder to make a 492cc triple). Mine is...

By extreme comparison i have a berkeley 328, a microcar from 1955 with a 328cc two stroke twin from an even older bike called an excelsior talisman.it was also known as a b65 because top speed was 65mph. But it does sound like a large chainsaw when one opens it up.

30 kw/h, realistic 100 mile range, only £26000 including the battery (ie no lease like Renault) makes it to me a genuine alternative to internal combustion, but I wonder how long the guarantee on the battery is (and its replacement cost)?

That's true, but,at the risk of sounding terribly petit bourgeois, I used to look at the dishevelled little two up two down in bucks and think "surely someone earning 70k or more a year (for a 300k mortgage) could be forgiven for expecting just a little more from life than it. I can't help having...

Agree with much of this - there is an instant celebrity/gratification in contemporary life that's way beyond unrealistic. But I also disagree. By way of example I bought an end of terrace back in 2000 for £130000 in bucks, it's market value now is around £300000. If I were doing what I did in...

It's only ultra low interest rates, the bank of mom and dad and double income screw the kids that keeps the bubble afloat. Up interest rates over a few percent and everyone will realise it's all about affordability and zero about supply and demand.

That's very true,a well trained gunner who can put down tight groupings even under extreme stress would take a truck out with a very few rounds from a 50, rather than the many more low calibre shots, but there would be collateral damage and I imagine it would be pretty awful to live with. I saw...

Yes,but stopping g power (muzzle energy) gets into it,specially if one hits a committed fanatic in a non critical body part. And the50 is an anti materiel round,it will stop the truck, regardless of driver. I guess I'm the kind of belts and braces type that would rather have overkill on my side...
