There is both a plus side and a minus side to riding in conditions such as today. The plus side being that it takes less than minutes, to hose the bike down, dry it with an airline, and relube everything in readiness for the next ride. The downside being, that my neighbours have to endure me...

eMTB owners photo and ride thread.

Well that was kind of an interesting day. It started with visit my friends mtb shop, to take a look at the new Orange that he has in stock as a demo bike. The idea had been to take it out and to get a few photos, but I got the feeling that he didn't want me getting it muddy, so it was just a...

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

Shown below, is a screen shot from the people that actually know a thing at two about mapping and it's recommended use. As you will see, 1:25 000 scale is recommended for mountain bike use, not 1:50 000 scale. It is pointless paying for or using 1:50 000 scale, when it isn't up to the job. You...

Only if it also has a 3d mapping facility as well.

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

A bit like Izzy wrongly thinking that 1:50000 is a better scale of mapping for off road use than 1:25000. The same thing, but a world of difference in both clarity and use.

I know what a bridleway is, I just wanted to know what a bridalway is.

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

Utter rubbish! You wouldn't stand a hope in hell of using 1:50000 for the majority of off road riding around here, and even when riding on the South Downs, it isn't on par. As said, it is a miserable failure. What is a bridalway?

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

Not an opinion that I would agree with. 1:50000 might be fine for road use or well marked trails the width of a motorway, but for anything off piste, or over technical and challenging terrain, 1:50000 is a miserable failure that lacks clarity and detail.

    Night Riders - Canal Routes

Think about it this way, you were the only person there, Gubbins wasn't. For all any of us know, you might well not have seen said branch in daylight hours, so I'd certainly not beat yourself up over it. I way prefer riding in hours of darkness over riding in daylight hours, and spend roughly...

    Wave goodbye part two.

Thanks flecc, selling the bike is the easy part, deciding which person to sell it to is the hard part. :) I now just need to get my backside into gear, remove the after market parts and put the bike back to standard condition.

    Wave goodbye part two.

The time has come to pass the Macina Lycan onto someone else. I think that I have only used it once since the last trip to the Swiss Alps back in July, the simple reason being that I just get more fun from riding hardtail mountain bikes, be that retro or bio, and now that I have the plus size...

    ebike law changes coming....

I have been staying well away from this thread, as I'm the first to admit that I have next to zero knowledge about the operation systems of ebikes, but from the outset of this thread, the comment that you have just made, has been foremost in my mind. Again with zero knowledge, in my head I can...

    I see your cheating then!

That is utterly crazy! From the one extreme of having the best road racing scene in the world, to that! o_O How things have sadly changed since the Armoy Armada days. .

Best way to find and navigate off-road MTB routes

OS Map Finder for me, for when riding on the South Downs, and (Hallwag) HKF-Maps for when riding in the Swiss Alps. I'm not sure if I was just unlucky, but after recently upgrading to a new phone, I discovered that the OS map tiles couldn't be transferred to the new phone. I tried and the shop...

Another night of fun! I'm still trying to piece together the route for the proposed eMTB group night ride, but might now need to re think a section of the 20 mile route. One section is hard enough to ride and work out in the day time, and riding at night, has twice proven to be impossible. Last...
