    Battery Fires

Speaking of battery fires, this should be fun: Battery Electric Trains on trial in London for unelectrified branch lines use all day long. The battery fully recharges at the end of each run in just three and a half minutes! Being media no information of what battery type is used, probably...

    Battery Fires

Nor me since the day the forum opened in October 2006. Over seventeen years of mostly lithium battery charging and usage by at least 15,000 members joining over the years, without a single fire. .

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

The exemption to allow EAPCs is very singular in its mention of an auxilliary motor. However, there is no mention of the motor being in a wheel, hence mid motors, so not in a wheel or divided between two wheels doesn't seem to matter, especially since it is the bicycle and not the motor which...

    Battery Fires

Indeed it has. The first 2010 model with a 24 kWh battery was good for just over 70 miles (claimed 90). The revision with a 30 kWh battery three years later was good for over 90 miles (claimed 124). Both good for 89mph top speed and 11.2 seconds 0 to 62mph. The increased efficiency second...

    Battery Fires

Nissan have announced that they will have a solid state battery model on the road in 2028, and they have lead the way with lithium batteried e-car development from 2010 on. I'm a very happy Nissan second generation Leaf owner for six years now and it, its two chargers and even its battery and...

    Bike Repairs

As Saneagle has said above, there is no ruling for or against throttles, only on whether pedalling is taking place to permit power, so no clarification on throttle use during pedalling is required. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Thatcher, May, Truss, now Mordaunt. When will they learn? Their recent male PMs are hopeless, their female ones to date even worse. .

I rode the first UK legal throttle Ebike

No it doesn't, since it's 250-Watt LPM, a sub class of L1e-A with ministerial permission to be treated as a normal EAPC (pedelec). .

Disabled cyclist; with one bad choice behind her, needs help with a new bike

Indeed. It's why in their earlier form known as scooters (Vespa et al) they completely eliminated the add on motors for bicycles from the market. The main reason the latter and complete pedelecs ever returned was the advent of their bureacracy free form with electric assist motors. .

Disabled cyclist; with one bad choice behind her, needs help with a new bike

Guerney has you on "Ignore", so he won't see your question or any of your posts past or present. He says he has me on ignore too. Why he thinks it's ok to comment adversely on someone or their products when they cannot reply to him I don't know. To me it is very ill mannered. I'm reporting...

Disabled cyclist; with one bad choice behind her, needs help with a new bike

And from very long experience of similar inquiries in here, we know that the disabled rarely understand the limitations of physics, current technology and the regulations of bureacracy free electric assist bikes. They mean that they are only suitable for those who can still cycle normally but...

New figures reveal 11 deaths from e-bike fires in UK last year, as MPs call for tighter regulations

One proven answer is to buy a pedelec and any subsequent batteries from the most highly regarded companies in respect of known battery lives, support and honouring warranties. They know that their reputation has taken years of hard work to build, but can be lost in a few seconds of poor...

    Help! Dead Bike

It is the Silver Fish 36 volt battery, Smarta is just a marketing brand name that never made anything. You can get the replacement battery on ebay for just over £150 complete with charger, but are you sure it is a working ebike before spending that? .

New figures reveal 11 deaths from e-bike fires in UK last year, as MPs call for tighter regulations

They are, since the defects that lead to a cell under performing are intrinsically often a fire risk. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to produce consistently perfect lithium cells so there is a high reject rate. Take Tesla's current nightmare. They are at the top of the e-car...

    Help! Dead Bike

Depends which model. The Smarta ebike model I knew was also being sold as the Synergie Mistral in 2007/8 until that firm failed and Pedelecs member "Blew it" owned one. It has a brushed rear hub motor and a Silver Fish battery. This link is to Blewits post about it, with a photo. Those...

The Roaming Radrunner - The Sibson Surprise!

Yes, I found it boring too, we aren't really a general Vlog platform. Not much point in promoting Rad Power class two mopeds here anyway, since with all sorts of legal and technical problems they're pulled right out of Europe to only trade in the USA now, closing their Netherlands office. .

    Centre stand options..

I only manage because the motor/controller combination on that earlier Ezee Quando is very powerful, able to sink 1000 watts despite a 250 watt legal rating. As A to B's review said, just sit on, twist the thottle and it flattens the hills. It even manages a standing start without any...
