£20 THING!, Upgrades. Battery, Bulbs, Locks etc..

You may it sound worse than it was. It was barely moving and i just rest my finger on the topside of the chain. No risk of losing anything. With the pedals on it probably wouldnt move the chain, Its just enough friction to move it with nothing attached. Extra torque for pulling up the hills...

oops sorry confused you all there. The sprocket on the right hand side the single speed gear. If i spin the teeth backwards there is a fair bit of drag. I have opened it and polished it and added some grease but its still not that free spinning. When i powered it up on the stand the pedals...

Going to do a belt and braces job, Got epoxy and evo-stik serious glue. Hopefully it wont be under that much load and it was just age that cause the old glue to fail. Wondering if letting the glue puddle between the magnets will help prevent this happening again? Ive not really spent that...

£20 THING!, Upgrades. Battery, Bulbs, Locks etc..

Thats much bigger than the one i have. Just tinkering with the wiring at the moment. Decided on front and rear lights being live with the key in position 2. And the indicators/brake lights being on with the power assist. Currently only the headlight works with the key in position 2. All other...

I stuck the centre in the lathe to scrape all the old glue off. I then used a bit of rough sandpaper to score the surface for a good hold. Sanded each maget by hand. I presume i need to be careful, Taking too much material away will weaken the field?

Looking at the state of the backs of the magnets i think i was lucky to get the wheel to work at all. Surface rust and pitting on them.

FAIL!!!!. Tightened the rear wheel, Fitted the front brakes. Fitted the rear band brake. All good. Started to route the wires for the front lights/switches and twisted the throttle, The one bulb i had on at the time dimmed slightly but no movement from the rear wheel. First thought was the...

    Police crackdown on illegal e-bikes

New to all this so most of the techie stuff goes over my head. I have a disc problem so sitting on a normal bike seat is painful, Pedalling is also painful. A couple of turns to get it going is acceptable but having to pedal up a hill would be a big no. I am not fussed about speed. 15mph is...

Good job they didn't go on Dragons Den with Theo Paphitis, He would have shown them in 2 seconds why it wont work. Smash....

    Solar Panel Roads

Been debunked many times. Their figures are best scenario, Which is not what will happen in real life. Figures based on panels being 100% efficient which they are not even close, The wiring has zero loss which wont work, Controllers are 100% efficient also. They claim the LEDs are visible in...

    Battery Configuration

Thats another point i guess. Although this bike has plenty of underseat space for the batteries. where the original SLA's are/were. And the top box. I dont have a decent case for the batteries. Just thinking about that tonight. I butchered an old computer PSU to get the socket to build a case...

    Battery Configuration

Ahhh, Thanks i just learnt something new (again) :) I assumed when people mentioned BMS they were talking about balance leads etc. What are the capacities like from Aliexpress? Variable? Knowing my luck i would order some 20Ah batteries and get 2Ah. I chose the HK ones because they came from...

Hello, new project on the go, battery help needed please!!!

DON'T goto SLA's.... I am new here and bought a "Thing" see my other threads. It came with 3 x 12v 10Ah SLA's. I weighed them today. 13.3kg. I have a pair or 18v 4Ah lipo batteries and they weigh just under 1kg. Seems the 4Ah lipo may actually give as much power as the 10Ah SLA's? Even adding...

    Battery Configuration

Personally its down to the money. I required a 10s pack to get 36 volts which is the same as you. But my charger only does upto a 6s pack. I went for a pair of 5s 4Ah packs and plan to add another pack giving 8Ah or 2 more giving me 12Ah. Already ordered some volt meters for them. I found the...

    Battery information please

If your handy with a soldering iron or lucky to be able to buy packs with the same dimensions then you can swap them fairly easily. I have recently bought a "Thing". Half bike/Half scooter.looking "Thing" :) Currently its fitted with SLA batteries but i bought a pair of 18v 4Ah batteries from...

£20 THING!, Upgrades. Battery, Bulbs, Locks etc..

Having fun with the front brakes at the moment. Just the pad on a stem. What holds it in place? To remove them i just undid the back and slid them out. But the new ones i put in seem a little fatter and slide through when i pull the brakes. Dont appear to have anything missing either. I...

A picture and an oops... Weighed it as in the picture and it weighs 26.6kg. The oops bit is that the batteries weigh 13.3kg. So as long as all the panels and lights and pedals etc weigh less than 100grams its OK. From the comments so far it seems doubtful that i could class it as a tandem...

One more thing before i rest for the night.. I was thinking of getting a small numberplate with the details on it. Something like. Pedelec 200 watts 36 volts Or do you think that will be more likely to attract attention with a quick glance making them think thats a moped? Just a small plate...

£20 THING!, Upgrades. Battery, Bulbs, Locks etc..

Damn finger slipped and lost my work before i clicked post reply.. Damn... try again... Only 18" wheels is 200rpm close to 15mph? Front light is wired directly to the battery through position 2 on the ignition switch. Pos 1 = power on, Pos 2 puts the headlight on. I plan on fitting a 36v to...

£20 THING!, Upgrades. Battery, Bulbs, Locks etc..

Any idea where it gets the speed signal from? Is it a factory set thing in the controller? Not from the motor, Its a simple 2 wire DC one. Speed signal works when the motor is unplugged, Not from the pedals either, Speed signal when not moving the pedals. Motor unplugged and sensor unplugged...
