So I phoned Halfords this morning told them the situation and they asked me to bring in the battery and they’ll take a look and replace it if necessary. Let’s see what they say. in the meantime I’ll continue to research batteries.

I think I am to blame here, the manuals do state the storage instructions when not in use I think me leaving the battery to die on the bike unused for over 9 months has contributed to the failure.

It’s gone 2 years got the bike in May 2019.

Done some digging souds like my best options are to : 1. Buy a new controller 350w (one with a compatible LCD and a standard PAS). 2. Buy a new battery 36v. And then do some wiring to continue using the existing motor. My only query would be where to buy those components from I do prefer UK...

It would be good to see what others have done in the community with there halford bikes, wether they have simply replaced batteries or put on new kits etc.

The battery is from April 2019. I think we have determined that its not the charger as we measured the voltage on the battery whilst it was plugged into the mains right and it was rising to 41v then dropping, implying that a cell or number of cells are below the voltage requirement to sustain a...

Either way mate re-celling the battery isn't worth it especially if its going to cost approx £400. I need to work out replacement options now. Any tips? Mid drive or Rear hub? I'm not even sure if a mid drive would fit on the carrera espec bike.

He did say that the halfords batteries come with a proprietery BMS so it may not be repairable. I'm now thinking of replacing the rear wheel and controller and battery with some kind of conversion kit. But how do I know if my rear wheel is cassette or free wheel?

I’ve also got in touch with the re-cell company and they quoted me £400. I think I need a 3rd option. Thinking of maybe refitting the bike with a new conversion kit.

It’s never done that before and also the controller won’t power on when the battery is attached to the bike.

Will that fit on my Carrera Vengeance without making any mods?

I agree, I suspect I have 2 options: 1. Get the battery re-celled or 2. Get a new battery. I'll get a quote for re-celling as I know a new battery is approx £350, and then decide on the best options. I am also interested in upgrading the e-spec maybe to a faster kit so any recommendations...

This is tricky as it says press for 5 seconds for SOH and press for a few seconds for SOC, whats the definition of a 'few seconds'? :) Each time I try this i get the same results 3 solid lights and 1 blinking light. Also I tried another test I plugged the charger into the mains and connected...

so if I follow the instructions I get 3 lights on and then a 4th blinking light for the SOC but I’m not sure if this is the SOC or the SOH

So I have taken the battery cover off see attached photo but the bms connections are tiny I can’t seem to get any result using the multi meter I don’t even think I can touch the connectors

Yeah I checked the manual and the battery SOH (State Of Health) returns 3 solid bars and a 4th blinking one which implies it’s got 80-90% life left in it.

Ok I’ll take the battery apart tomorrow and rest like the video and pray I can put it back together again.
