Would I be stopped by police?

Hello,

I'm considering moving my last lipo set of batteries into a pair of these bags:
http://www.rutlandcycling.com/286087/products/dawes-messenger-pannier-laptop-bag.aspx?origin=pla&kwd=&currency=GBP&gclid=CMWD9PrO6MICFU6WtAodG3QA8w

It would be attached into the rear rack, as side pannier. I'm planning to leave it for long time outside and it wouldn't be locked.

The battery as it is can't be easily fit to any other bike or sold:

I doubt anyone will want to steal it, however, I'd like them to save the hassle trying to steal the bag anyway (last time someone just cut the wires from my light) and by doing so creating a risk of fire or explosion.

I'm thinking to stick one of these on the bag:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Danger-Electrocution-risk-Warning-Sign/dp/B003SZEYTM/ref=sr_1_39?ie=UTF8&qid=1420509769&sr=8-39&keywords=electrocution warning

I'm wondering if I would be able to travel safely in London with 2 big electrocution warning sign on my bags, or am I going to be stopped by police?

Can't think of any reason for the police wanting to stop you, but maybe if they did , you run the risk of them being a little more thorough in finding out why you offer the risk of electrocution!
Best you not draw attention to yourself, after all should wrong doers come to grief through being anti social then that is good karma!

It would most likely be destroyed in a controlled explosion by the bomb disposal squad:oops:

In this day and age it would be a possibility.
I would expect such signage to increase the likely hood of being stopped by the police, plus the signage will most likely attract the wrong people when left on the street, ie, electric I can probably sell it.

If you parked it in a public place, some well-intentioned Fun Prevention Officer might report it as a public risk. Then things would start to get difficult for you because you'll be guilty until you can prove yourself innocent of everything.

This is the UK - innocent until proven guilty. As long as the contents of the bag do not contain a voltage that exceeds the Low Voltage Directive, you should be fine. They can't get you for anything. It's like sticking a "warning our dog bites" or "dangerous dog" sticker on your front gate when you own a Chihuahua! once people/the authorities see the goods and inspect it they will understand that the sticker is a deterrent not a real danger warning. They can't prosecute you for that!

I think D8veh's post was meant in jest, the key word being Fun;)

Being innocent until proven guilty didn't help Jean Charles de Menzes much when he was stopped by the police:(

What I meant was that by putting a label on your bike that says it's dangerous, you'll set the minds of the inquisitors. When they ask you, "Is there a danger of electrocution", you'll have to convince them that there isn't. While you're trying to convince them, you'll probably have to show them what you've got, which might then bring new problems. I can just imagine a plod or plodess seeing a bunch of lipos with wires going everywhere taking quite a bit of convincing unless they happen to have a degree in electronics (a real one, not like the ones they give out today), which is not very likely.I've seen one of Cwah's bikes. It scared me. If it had a label saying "danger of electrocution", I'd have believed it and so would everybody else at Redbridge that saw it.

Don't forget, also, that the legal limit is 48v. If I had a 72v electric bike, I'd put a label on it that said, "very low voltage - harmless", but that wouldn't scare off thieves..

I would have a notice reading Danger biological samples, danger of infection. Just make sure you have some used handkerchiefs in a clear plastic bag inside your panniers, to show if challenged.

Exactly Dave, I saw that bike too, possibly the scariest thing I have seen on two wheels and could easily be mistaken for an IED
For those who didn't here it is:eek:

Nahh, that bike looks like a suicide bomber complete with shrapnel pack moving at high speed through narrow lanes, Any officer FAILING to stop that bike would be in dereliction of duty!

cwah - what was that thing meant to be really? It looks like an entry for robot wars not a bike!:p
I can't see the big pneumatic axe in that shot John, you got another?

To be fair to Cwah, that bike had been used as his main transport for some time and it worked perfectly apart from the brakes.I respect him for all the different things he tries, which has provided hours of entertainment and marvel for us. Often, people say it can't be done, but Cwah still produces a solution. If only we had more like him on the forum.I love to see his creations.

Must say John, that I keep laughing looking at cwah's bike pic as when it appears on my screen, the text you wrote above it gets pushed up off the screen and I get you signature instead!
It's making me wonder who supplied that bike - Ansmann, eZee or Heinzmann. Tempted to take a screenshot just for posterity as it is so amusing as a comedy 'ad' for cyclezee:p.

(You may want to edit that post to include some text below the pic as well as above for those who casually glance at the screen!)
