the motor is on the rear wheel, it's not too bad looking but the HL battery on the downtube says loudly 'electric'.

I think if were to do this conversion, i think i would prefer the battery on the downtube for lower down weight and better weight distribution, but i'm not that bothered about disguising it as an Ebike. Although one concern of mine was whether this lightweight frame is strong enough to hold a bottle battery ok, the downtube certainly does seem of a thinner fabrication compared to my Carrera Hybrid that currently has a kit fitted to it.
Did you lace in the rear hub motor to the original wheel yourself, or did the motor already come laced in a 700c wheel ?

The bike runs on a ready made motor wheel at the moment. I still have the original rear wheel, will test the bike with a woosh GSM next then decide. Both systems are street legal 250W but with plenty of torque. I have the impression that the SWX02 is quieter.

If i do go down the kit route, a rear hub motor is what i would do. I prefer the look of a rear hub motor to a CD, plus my area is not that hilly, also i would want to keep the 50/34 compact.

the 8-Fun SWX02 has a huge torque although woosh labelled it as 250W. I had absolutely no trouble going up steep hills. I am going to put the GSM on just for comparision. The GSM is about 1.2kg heavier.
This is the SWX02 code 12 on woosh santana2:

Even though i'll be set on a rear hub motor and the extra weight of a CD would also be a minus for me, i'll be interested to hear your comparison between the two.

I am already tilted toward the SWX02. I test rode the GSM before although with the GSM there is the attraction of not having to buy new spokes and relace the motor to the Giant SR2 rim. As I said before, the SWX02 is very quiet and confident with the Lishui 18A HL1260 controller.

As soon as I get some spare cash I am going to upgrade my controller. I have thought of using the 20 A controller from a 09 bottle battery (hence my request in the classifieds here) and turning down the Amps via the LCD to 16-17 A. From the photos I have seen it seems sealed enough to screw to the frame downtube.

The other solution is to buy a 08 battery with 18 A controller which I would also tune down to 16.5 or 17 A. Those Amp values provide the slight Watt boost I feel would help on hills while not decreasing range by too much.

@Jefner
what do you think of converting your old bike instead of buying a new one?
The way I see it, converting an old bike would reduce the lifecycle carbon footprint by half.
That's a pleasant thought that had never occurred to me.

My ingrained penny-pinching philosophy of buying all of my bikes and trikes secondhand and then DIY adapting some to electric is actually helping to save the planet.

Excellent....... :)
