Which bike to buy?

Hello all

I am in the market for a new e-bike with the following requirements:
a) bike type: mountain (20" frame)
b) top speed: ~30mph
c) acceleration: better than my road-legal Cyclamatic CX1 (250w motor, 36v/8.8Ah battery)
d) battery: the largest possible (in terms of both voltage and amperes)
e) budget: 1000-1300 GBP
f) restricted/unrestrictred mode programmable

I am starting to think that getting an unrestricted bike off the shelf will be a hit and miss type of situation...

Get a legal one and speak to sw. Or even woosh but they will only do 25mph.

if that is fast enough any bosch or Yamaha bike will do it with a dongle fitted climb any hill and i get about 25-35 miles range depending on what setting i use.

Who/what is "sw"? Do you mean the user "soundwave"? EDIT: Nevermind,

I intend to slowly increase the top speed limit at 5mph increments (from 15mph to 20mph and so on) to see what top speed feels right. I think that I'll probably settle at 20-25mph as 30mph seems too fast but I would like to try 30mph nonetheless.

that is the cheapest option with a dongle fitted and a 2 year warranty.

Seems awfully expensive for a measly 250w motor and a puny 36v battery.

In contrast, the Cyclotricity Stealth 1000w is only 1200 pounds.

Why pay 800 pounds more?

To be honest for 1k ish you are in diy/homebuilt territory, a 48v system, 30a controller coupled to a 260 or 328 rpm 500w hub. If you live in a flat area with no big hills then 328rpm if you have steep hills then go for 260 rpm. Though generally you are looking at Chinese sellers to buy from barring the battery which is the expensive part.

That guy seems to be on the level. He even has a clip on his youtube channel where he made an appearance in a morning talk show in Ireland and talked about one of his bikes.

However, aren't his claims of ~50mph somewhat outlandish, especially given the price of the bike? (~1500 pounds)

Yes, with one exception: we sell also the 500W BBS02 kit.
The webpage mentioned clearly that the BBS02 is sold with special conditions, that the user must not derestrict it and the warranty is void if the motor is derestricted. In principle, the customer is restricted to 15.5mph + 10%.
Crank drive bikes and kits give us a big head ache because of the issue of derestriction.
DD motors are usually pants unless you want 30mph performance. Even then, they are still pants on hills and pants ridden without power. No wonder many are fitted with triple chain rings.
