Battery in pannier bag? Not an optimal placement.
Well, I am not asking you to do it. It suits me though. Sometimes it goes in a trunk bag, sometimes a pannier, never gets left on the bike. The last thing I want is to draw attention to my bike when I leave it locked up unattended. Imagine how annoying it would be to get out the pub full of beer and kebab to find bikes been nicked or far more likely some scroat has pry-barred off a bike mounted battery. I’d have to walk up the hill then…

It’s a tiny little 10Ah thing that lives in a waterproof OtterBox and lays flat in the bottom of the pannier.

For my requirements I can’t think of a better position for it, it wasn’t an accident it ended up there.

I’ve also solved the lopsided weight distribution on my later trip today. Two bottles of wine and a bunch of flowers, except I over cooked it and am now veering to the left. Must have been the flowers that tipped it over the edge.IMG_0860.jpegIMG_0859.jpeg

+1 for that approach - I couldn't agree with you more. Those hecking great Hailong battery cases just shout "ebike, come and get me".

Interestingly, I've never heard of an ebike battery getting nicked. Have you?
Yes I have, from people I've met who have lost their batteries to theft (not anecdotal - it was their batteries not a third party story). Maybe only two or three direct reports over the past couple of years.

The bigger point though is the visual presence of the battery (Hailong in this case) which very quickly identifies the bike as an ebike which in turn could lead to the theft of the whole bike not just the battery. Any conversion is difficult to 'hide' so to speak, it's just that some combinations of battery cases, hub or mid-drive motors, always on lights and so forth, advertise the fact.

@Bogmonster666 's convertion is IMHO one of the more discrete jobs around - that's just down to personal taste of course.

Unfortunately I have - a battery is an easy target and in my case the battery is worth more than the rest of the crapcycle.

I have been offered a Trek hybrid bike from a friend of a friend for a good price and there is a dent in the top tube. Looks suspiciously to me like someone has tried to jack a d-lock off it. Going to avoid as I would not be happy to think it may have been a stolen bike…
