This guy was hard work for me.

I saw this young guy tootling along, travelling around 20 mph on a regular push bike, and he didn't seem at all taxed going at that speed. So, I decided to give myself a bit of a workout and try to keep up with him for a little while. :)

My cut-off is 19.5 mph.

I must admit that I can't see a motor, but I have some reservations about him riding unpowered.

His cadence looks to be too low and more in line with somebody riding an electric bike. My cadence on my road bike is about 75, but if I want to pass somebody or shake them off, it goes right up to about 100. He clearly seems to be concerned about you following him, like he's trying to shake you off, but his cadence stays steady like mine does when I'm on my electric bike at around the limit of assistance. It just doesn't look right.

Secondly, that pack on his waist looks very suspicious. Unfortunately, the photo isn't clear enough to see if there's a wire going down the seatpost.

Thirdly, in my experience, people that can pedal at 20 mph, normally have better bikes.

Lastly, it looks a lot like a throttle next to his hand, though it could be a grip-shifter.

He hasn't got a hub-motor, neither a Bafang BBS or similar, but there's still a few other crank motors that could be hidden in that photo.

I'm not saying that he has got a motor, but I wouldn't write off the possibility.

I agree. I thought front hub in the absence of being able to see anything else from the rear.
Unless he's got the most free rolling tyres pumped at 130psi, I say it looks fishy.

He's young and we're old, face it.

Best way to think about it is he just got off the plane from Rio, pack around his waist is his gold medal and he probably borrowed his mums old Sturmey archer 3 speed to fetch some milk from the shops.

I've had a really good look at the original movie file, which is a bit clearer, and took some screenshot pics. It just seemed weird the way that he pedaled so effortlessly.

32 kmh? His bike does look a bit "ordinary" but I rode at that speed in my 20's, I was even clocked at over 60 kmh riding home from work. But yes it was a racing bike in an exotic steel alloy and I was pulling 52:11 or something silly like that...

I think he is just a strong young lad and he is in top gear. Before going electric I had the tendency to be a couple of gears higher than I should have been and using brute force rather than cadence. Age and going electric have me using a cadence between 70 and 80 now instead.
