At one point I thought likewise. But no, he was just a fit young dude. :)

He thought a Psycho was after him.

You can see him having to 'work for the win' @ 02:44 in the video.

If I have encounter many more races like this, I'm upgrading to a Kawasaki. :D

Dongle or disconnect the speed sensor, or act your age.

I wouldn't know where to begin.. Anyway, it's plenty fast enough for me and I don't mind finding some young uns to give me a good work out now and then. :)

It was the driving rhythms of Afrocelts wot did it. Great album, whatever happened to them?

I'd never heard of them until a week ago. My kids, all adults now, went to the Lake festival at Ledbury recently. They played there and they liked them. :)

I must admit that I can't see a motor, but I have some reservations about him riding unpowered.

His cadence looks to be too low and more in line with somebody riding an electric bike. My cadence on my road bike is about 75, but if I want to pass somebody or shake them off, it goes right up to about 100. He clearly seems to be concerned about you following him, like he's trying to shake you off, but his cadence stays steady like mine does when I'm on my electric bike at around the limit of assistance. It just doesn't look right.

Secondly, that pack on his waist looks very suspicious. Unfortunately, the photo isn't clear enough to see if there's a wire going down the seatpost.

Thirdly, in my experience, people that can pedal at 20 mph, normally have better bikes.

Lastly, it looks a lot like a throttle next to his hand, though it could be a grip-shifter.

He hasn't got a hub-motor, neither a Bafang BBS or similar, but there's still a few other crank motors that could be hidden in that photo.

I'm not saying that he has got a motor, but I wouldn't write off the possibility.

I agree. I thought front hub in the absence of being able to see anything else from the rear.

Unless he's got the most free rolling tyres pumped at 130psi, I say it looks fishy.

He's young and we're old, face it.

Best way to think about it is he just got off the plane from Rio, pack around his waist is his gold medal and he probably borrowed his mums old Sturmey archer 3 speed to fetch some milk from the shops.

I've had a really good look at the original movie file, which is a bit clearer, and took some screenshot pics. It just seemed weird the way that he pedaled so effortlessly.

Nice 10 speed, 26" road bike ridden by a Horse.

He was probably on drugs......

We all know what cyclists are like these days with their Lance Armstrong type substances.

32 kmh? His bike does look a bit "ordinary" but I rode at that speed in my 20's, I was even clocked at over 60 kmh riding home from work. But yes it was a racing bike in an exotic steel alloy and I was pulling 52:11 or something silly like that...

I think he is just a strong young lad and he is in top gear. Before going electric I had the tendency to be a couple of gears higher than I should have been and using brute force rather than cadence. Age and going electric have me using a cadence between 70 and 80 now instead.

Yes, just a fit young man, I could and did do the same even in my 60s before adopting e-power for the first time at 67 to help with heavy trailer pulling. These days there are very large numbers of London cycle commuters keeping up 20 mph during long commutes, and they aren't all very young.

Have a look at that video above at 2m 30 for a few seconds to see him lean forward and put in an extra burst of hard effort to regain speed. It shows he's strong.

.

Just got back from a test ride on Number Two and I am still good for 30-32 km/h on the flat (cut off speed 25 km/h). That was at 46:13 and the bike wasn't loaded at all, just the chain, my wallet and a safety vest in the pannier. Downhill 46:11 and lying down I pushed to over 60 km/h just about spinning out, sitting up in a more dignified position I managed to pedal to 51.7 km/h down the longer 3.8 km hill. Taking things easy 44 km/h is the number most seen on the speedo going down and 18-23 km/h going up.

More details, and photos, on the evolution of Number Two to come in the build thread tomorrow.
