I have visited the Falklands a few times and it is amazing to see the high regard and respect that the people there have for her.
Streets are named after her and many of the pubs have pictures of her up on the wall.
One thing that I remember from her was her likening herself to Royalty or at least it seemed that way to me.

Not so amazing really though Jerry.....I would think they certainly DO appreciate all she and our brave armed forces did for them.
Sad thing is....what would happen now if it all kicked off again......no way have we got that capability now.....and have we a leader strong enough ?.....well, certainly not with his arms tied behind his back with the coalition ribbon of .....no, no, Im not going to really get started......

She was a good politician, she managed to fool lots of people into thinking she was sincere. She did damage to this country that, sadly, will never be undone. As to the Falklands, Lynda, are you old enough to remember the war? If so, can you remember all the signs Argentina gave that it would invade? Can you remember the signs HER government gave that they weren't up for defending them? Lots of people died in that war, a war that didn't need to happen.

As I recall from those days, the Defence cuts she'd already planned would have meant we couldn't have put together a Task Force worth a damn if the Argies had bided their time and waited another year or two. That's how close it was and that crazy bitch Thatcher turned her back on the Falklands as if they didn't matter, right up until the Argies invaded.
Small wonder the Falklanders are grateful to her, but they're not really thinking straight, are they? The one they should be grateful to is Jim Callaghan, who sent a couple of frigates to patrol off the Falklands when the Argies made threatening moves previously. Result? They backed off and nothing happened, but Callaghan didn't get any kudos for that and history has totally forgotten it.
So, in reality, Thatcher gets credit for rescuing the FIs from a fate she brought upon them by her wilful neglect - OH, the IRONY.
Anyway - back to gears...
I've been finding I don't really need more than 3 - with the big front ring on; the smallest rear, an intermediate, and the largest rear do nicely. I'm not using the bike for mountain tracks as it was originally designed for, so those three gears are more than adequate, especially with the leccy hub.

I've read many of your posts and always felt what a decent man you appear to be, always helpful and obviously knowlegable. But I have to say I was saddened to read your implication that you were glad Magaret Thatcher has been suffering the ill effects of Alzheimers Desease for many years. What a terrible thing to wish on anyone.

As with Lynda Rob, you've seriously misunderstood what I posted. I wouldn't wish any illness or misfortune on anyone, not even a common cold, but that is a very different thing from not feeling sorry for someone who was so pityless and ruthless with others.
I dont know Flecc.....as I said before.....it doesnt sound a very nice sentiment still does it ?
You may say you dont 'wish' it on her, but feeling like its justice that she has it.... still isnt good is it ?
Knowing your amazing affinity with wildlife, for example, I did find it a strange sentiment coming from you......although I appreciate your obviously different political leanings to my own.....

I did say "maybe" justice as shown in your quote, and her condition was not my own doing but possibly her own.
As for a political affiliation, I've mainly been a conservative voter throughout my life. A pity she was too far to the right to qualify for that.

As for Formuula 1, I see it's at last being officially admitted that interest has slumped in the west, this being the reason for promoting it widely with new tracks elsewhere in the world. I doubt that will save it in it's present form though, attendance at many of those tracks is miniscule outside of the stands and it is now almost fully dependent on TV money.
You certainly were not alone, the level of security that had to be given to her after leaving politics has been greater than for any other former leader. She was unable to take up residence in the Dulwich house she bought and had to have an unassailable town house in the centre instead, so great was the threat to her life.
