hi all suggestions for descent gloves
I have tried bog standard thinsulate ok until they get wet.
thick heavy duty thinsulate hard to get big hands into and difficult to operate gears etc.
ski type gloves not too bad not warm enough.

maplins heated gloves battery too bulky and akward not any real difference when worn outside.

as lots of members commute suggestions for gloves not mittens. I don't go much more than 10 miles with this cold weather

I wear a pair of Brooks two tone grey100% polyester gloves all year round, they are thin so good in summer but keeps the cold wind chill off in winter useless for rain but I like them for their lightness.

I got some windstopper extremities for a small fortune in Aviemore. Now they are down to a more reasonable £25. They are good as long as you are exercising and have been skiing and cycling at minus 5 windchill for 4 hours. That's probably their limit. In the wet that would reduce to about 30 minutes which is about 10 miles.

I use these and find them both warm and comfortable http://www.sealskinz.com/UK/winter-cycle-gloves?gclid=Cj0KEQiAuqC2BRDVxMSnpa-mhZoBEiQAFta8wWEnNBcRzUYNh-oxVPS7gtGXW1w4iMrowdJyhojeIvEaAngE8P8HAQ, not cheap but if you have big hands like me you get them for £18.95 from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealskinz-Waterproof-Winter-Cycle-Glove-Cycling-Gloves-XL-/401032811214?hash=item5d5f6b12ce:g:14cAAOSwqv9V5tl8

My son who clocks up many more miles than I do had the same gloves but wore them out in a couple of years, he replaced them with the same ones.

If you want additional warmth, try a pair of those thin very stretchy "one size fit's all" inside your waterproof or windproof gloves.
It does make a big difference as it seems to trap more warm air inside.
They don't take much room up but no good if it makes your existing gloves too tight.
Dave.

Footpump, my Stihl work gloves do a brilliant job, but aren't waterproof, so based upon the recommendations on here and Cyclezee's second link, I ordered up a pair of Sealskinz on Sunday afternoon, and they arrived safely today from Absolute Cycles, price £18.95 delivered.

First impressions are very good, especially in the ordered XL size. My one reservation/concern is that I'm not convinced that the inner liner isn't going to keep coming out when removing the gloves. If it does, then it will quickly become an irritation.

I'll try them out on tonight's nights planned night ride.

Thanks everyone for the recommendation.
