still not to sure what to make of bosch ebike system

His motor is capable of 500W, in my reckoning, he can only get 350W out of 500W. if I were in his shoes, I'd rig up something to bypass the software control.

@Woosh, are you seriously saying that he should be able to ride up every hill at 11mph. You also still neglected to take into account that not all of the power settings are being used.

The ride below was yesterday, and was one that the Woosh Karoo failed to even do. I had to turn around at the 5 mile point and take a different route. I have ridden the same route using an Active Line motor, on 700c wheels on many occasions, and the result was almost the same as yesterday using an eMTB on 650b with CX motor. I certainly didn't see any more than 11mph on many of the hills, so it is hardly surprising that the OP hasn't either.



I should also remind you that the Woosh Karoo struggled on just about every hill around here, where as the Active Line motor never gave a hint of faulting. The throttle wouldn't even pull me up my drive way, and as I said in my review, it was only my own fitness level that got me to the top of the hills.

tbh i doubt you could tell the difference if you never knew what motor was on which bike as its just 15% more or less.;)

I made the Karoo for fit e-cyclists.
I made the Rio for average e-cyclists
I made the Big Bear for less fit e-cyclists.

The Karoo has 14A controller, the Rio has 17A and the Big Bear 20A.

Horses for courses.

the bosch motor cant be far of 20a as seen the Yamaha motor pulling 18a with a dongle fitted on the flat ;)

ER, you are mistaken.
I have plenty of opportunities to push my bikes elsewhere, why would I want to push my bikes where 99% of Bosch bikes are better built than mine?
The OP was frustrated because he could not get the best out of his bike, if he could have got a software update (ie higher assist ratio) from the dealer who sold him the bike, he would not have started this thread in the first place.
If you guys simply told him that it could not be done without a software update, then this thread would not degenerate into a slanging match against hub motors.
He is a member since 2014, it's not his first e-bike, so please, read the info more thoroughly.

First W, I asked a question, I did not make a statement. Nowhere did I slang a hub drive or any other drive system. And in a discussion to try and reply the OP's "Bosch" system observations someone started talking about hub drives. Fair enough but nothing to do with the original topic. From there it went to a discussion about the pros and cons of different systems and the best ways to get the best out of both.

If you feel slanged there is nothing I can do about it. Talk to the people that have slanged (is this even a word?) you. All you have talked about is your
hub drive bikes and have contributed nothing to the bosch side of the discussion. All the while proudly talking about your Woosh bikes. No one else has used this thread to mention their bikes more than yourself. Hence the question asked.

up to this page 10, I did not talk about my bikes. It's EddiePJ who mentioned the Woosh Karoo.
You can go back and check, I only argue for a more flexible system / software settings, I did not argue against the torque system.

Your objection is noted but I did not call you any such thing. Again, your words. I would give and have given this type of advice to anyone that I percieved did not know a lot about a torque system or a cadence system. And you were correct in asking me earlier if I assumed you had no or little experience with a torque system. I have absolutely no idea what the history of your business is or was. You assume in error. I also do not know a lot about the present status of your business or your products. Just what you keep suggesting to prospective customers on multiple threads in this forum. I do not have any reason desire to know any more nor do I care. What I do or do not know about you is irrelevant to this thread. I am sure that those following this present banter between you and I are having a great chuckle. Go on then, what has the OP's bike been designed for?

I'd have no issue trying either a Rio or Big Bear around here, against an Active Line bike, and posting up the results.

Likewise for my Yamaha, I know a crank drive is not the best in all situations but I still cannot understand why the lower gears are not used. It is like trying to drive a car up a slow twisting turning climb in fourth gear, it will not do it. If you have a crank drive let the gears help, if you have a hub motor give it max power keep your speed up because if you hit a serious gradient for any length of time you will melt it if you go too slowly.
It's not always about speed, battery life / range csn be equally important to some.
