:D. Not true Garry, my CB500R test was conducted each year until recently in under two minutes, very much as I described as a nod-through. It was just treads, static brake operation check, lights and horn check and a shake of the headstock. The certificate took longer to produce!

No cyclemotor on a bike will be treated any more seriously by the trade.
So how old is you CB500 ? and when was it last tested. To test modern motorcycles a MOT test centre must have a rolling road and a load of other gadgetery. The place that services my bikes took almost 2 years to get them selves sorted out with all the kit etc to allow them to do this. Things have really tigtened up in the last few years.

It wasn't that old, that model weren't introduced until 1995. However, that isn't relevent to what I said, it's a matter of finding the right place to get tested, the big boys are a waste of time and try to make jobs for themselves. In my case it's a fairly small local m/c dealer who does what is necessary rather than stick to lists or look for "faults" to profit from.

A short while ago I managed to get the same benefit for my cars, since I met a small garage proprietor who I knew when he was a 15 year old on my estate 30 years ago! We used to play snooker at a local club. Even picks up the car for testing FOC and passes it without any of the "creative" fault-finding the big boys go in for. For example the KwikFit place that tried to get away with telling me I needed new rear shocks after smearing one with some engine oil to kid it was a leak. They didn't know I'm a fully qualified motor mechanic!

KwikFit place
And one KwikFit told my son that his car had failed the exhaust gas test, but not to worry cos they had put some special stuff in the tank to make it test ok.... at an extra cost of £17, but failed it anyway on a bit of rust that would cost £200

Took it to my man what only does mot tests (no repairs) and guess what

We have a great local garage who do not rip you off can not beat them, never use anything other than independent garages if I can help it. However it also helps that the majority owner of our organisation used to be a car mechanic and previously ran his own garage :)
