So at that sort of pace we may achieve an experimental molten salt thorium reactor by about 2080.
I reckon by 2050, renewables will have oustripped fossil fuels as source of energy. Even 2080 is not very far away.

Now they could have left the Underground as it was..
But despite its "age and historic tunnel design", 400 fires later, "cleaning and modernising" was eventually done.
Now it just needs more Cleaning and Air Filtration.

No, sufficient modernising hasn't been done, since it's impossible without long term shutdown and replacement. Most of our underground system is an antique, the penalty of being first.

"Modernising" galore, including "air conditioning in the carriages" on the 4 deep tube lines. It seems it IS possible. :).
No mention of improving the air quality overall though, so ye might want to wear a respirator down there! :-(
That's the propaganda.

To neatly sum up, not possible with poor air quality thoughout the whole system, including the four deep lines through sharing the same stations. At least 80% of it needs shutting down for a total rebuild, but of course that isn't possible. So we're stuck with the history, including the Central Line which was built for steam locomotives pulling the underground trains.

Yes, they stayed with "steam locomotives", kept it old school, none of this new-fangled electric rubbish. Like Londonium overall, founded in 50AD, it has hardly changed at all since then, coz it just "isn't possible"? :)

Mere "propaganda" I'm sure. Everyone knows steam trains smoke is healthy. That's why so many people still light up their tobacco pipes and breath it in. :)

This "old" clip reveals they only used to "fluff" the tunnels once every six years, yuk!
And where's the tunnel cleaning machines? C'mon Mr Dyson, this is up your alley.
