So l've got a Mirider 1 and my missus has just got hers on RTW

The new one isn't right, the range is poor (10 miles) and the battery indicator is down to 50% after as little as 2.5 miles.

The bike is slower than mine and can't achieve the 15.5mph cutoff speed, managing about 14mph before assistance fades. (mine will assist up to an indicated 16mph)

Also the motor makes an intermittent graunching noise as if the chain has slipped, which of course it can't do.

And if freewheeling there's a thudding felt through the bike as if the tyre has a flat spot, which it hasn't.

Any ideas as what could be wrong with it. Do the hub motors fail in this way? l've called the bike shop and they say they've "emailed Mirider" but two weeks on nothing has happened.

The bike has done 200 miles from new.

Don't touch it!
It does not matter what is wrong, the seller needs to fix it, free of charge!!
If you bought it on a credit card, you may have good reasons to get a full refund, which I myself feel is the best option for you.

Is yours new? What sort of terrain are you riding in, what assistance level are you using, how heavy are you if you don't mind that question?

The spec says 252Wh battery, so the only way a new one can have such poor range is if operating conditions are adverse. It should not need more than 16Wh per mile, so minimum range on average terrain, with an average weight rider, on medium assistance levels ought to be about 16 miles.

If ridden at full assistance at maximum speed all the time, that will come down a bit, and near the end of battery capacity, it will stop on the first hill that pulls the voltage below low voltage cutoff.

The battery is 36v 7Ah. A 90kg rider riding over moderately hilly terrain should achieve about 15 miles without pedalling too hard. A slim fit rider of about 75kg should achieve about 25 to 30 miles. If you use the boost button or level 5 all the time and air-pedal, you'd get about 10 miles. If you select level 0 and pedal hard, 250 miles range or more would be achievable.

Wow my old thread revived! I've still got the Mirider, it would manage around 15 miles in the hills around here as suggested above. lt was never as good as the first Mirider we had, it was always noisy, and last week the motor failed. l
am going to fit a new wheel, it costs £250.

With that interior you'll be getting questions about which way up your cable is/was!

How many miles did it last?

Certainly that hub has an issue with moisture ingress , not surprised it was noisy.
