Sprocket Change

I spoke to 50Cycles today. My 49cm crossbar Pro-Connect should be delivered very soon. In an earlier thread (cannot find it now), someone said that they would change the rear sprocket for about £15. I asked about them this but, for legal reasons, they are now only willing to supply a different rear socket for £6.99. I would need to change it myself or get another bike shop to do it.

How easy is it to do this (without specialist tools or knowledge)? I really do not want to screw up out of ignorance.

Have a look in this thread at the advice from Aldby and myself on removing tye gearchange mechanism to change the sprocket. The sprocket itself is held in place by a wire circlip.

The 61cm Pro-Connect gents frame has just popped up as in stock.

That makes sense doesn't it? I bet there are thousands of 6 feet 6 50 Cycles customers who are all jumping for joy at this very moment .

Still - I guess you've got to say its a good sign.

Clever things horses.

There's a council road sign near me that states:

Until I read that I hadn't realised that horses could read.

Note about the bike seats getting wet.

A good tip I got from a cyclist is buy a cheap shower cap and put it over the seat when its parked to keep it dry in the rain.

Thanks for the info.
Funny how we know more about the production dates and estimated delivery weeks than the people who should.
Could it just because we make the effort to find out whats going off, or its just being withheld from us.


But its good news for us all I feel.
Im not counting my chickens though til they are FULLY hatched.

I managed to talk to Tim yesterday on the "webchat" thing on the 50cycles website. When I asked when they were expecting the Gent's large frames, he said that all frames and sizes were expected in "this month". When I asked if he could be more specific (given that it was the 2nd of the month when I spoke to him!) he basically said no; apparently they don't know what's coming when.

Ho hum.

Yes im sure it was February, no March, no April, no....... im sure now it was May.
For all I know it could have been them all !!!

On a more serious note.
If you didnt know I talked to Derby Cycles in Germany last week.
They told me the 53cm Gents Pro-Connect would be shipped to 50cycles within 2 weeks or 9th-10th June.
Derby cycles told me if the bike didnt arrive by that time, then to phone them again and they would look into the problem.
Pity the supplier has nothing to say about this in the forum.

I have recently been in touch with 50C about the Cycle to Work Scheme.

I also asked them when my 53cm Gents Pro-Connect which I ordered last December would be delivered. They had told me some months ago that I was first on the list.

I got a reply the same day about the Scheme but no mention of the delivery date.

I sent a reply back with regard to the Scheme and asked again about delivery but haven't had a reply.

So I am waiting, waiting, patiently waiting......

I bike to work but I am now getting a bit concerned as I only have four and a half years to retirement and might not get the Pro Connect in time!

I work for an Engineering Company and we also have problems with deliveries of motors, pumps, hydraulic cylinders and even steel but we are able to tell our customers all around the world when they will receive their equipment, so what is the problem with Derby Cycles giving accurate dates to 50C and for them to let us customers know?

I've been told im 9th on the the list, so I should get 1st shipment of the 53cm Pro-Connect. As ive said before, they have baked a big round s*** pie and we've all got to have a piece each with extra s*** custard poured over it.
The issues continue to be ridiculas, and the people concerned continue to spin it to us.

If we had cast-iron guarantees about delivery dates, we would surely post them here. We thought we had them before and were broadsided when the dates slipped, so we can't and won't make any promises until the bikes are sitting here in front of us, ready to despatch.

When a business fails to produce/provide there is something seriously wrong. On that basis I have decided not to purchase a kalhoff pro connect until there is a choice of dealers. The whole show is quite frankly an embarrassment. This forum is highly informative in this matter and has saved me a great deal of time , money and teeth gnashing. I hope when they finally do arrive that the zen like patience of the customers is rewarded. The quest for a reasonable electric bike combined with a dealer worth their salt goes on.

Despite other members not wanting to hear this negative critism of the ebike market, I do think it is essential to read for 1st time buyers like you and myself. Some people are not ebike enthusiasts. They just want an ebike the works, can be provided, and with good dealer support, cus people like me have no knowledge of bike maintainence.
It still amazes me that these ebike are so difficult to attain.
The bikes are often not in stock, the dealers are all in the south of england and the support is at most transient.
With 100% mark up on the bike your would think the dealers would be falling over themselves to sell you their bike.
The ezee range always seems to have a healthy stock, but it has had its problems, and again its dealer couldn't be anymore south unless it was in France.
1st time buyers should be well put off at the moment as the market is very second rate.
One day ebikes will only be sold only when in stock, customers will have a wide UK based support package and the bike will be competatively priced.

People will try to argue this against the car industry or other consumer issues but this is utter rubbish.
This is just a bike after all. Its the simplest from of transport known to man with the horse and feet followed close behind.
