I have no truck with some of the interventions which have been made in other countries by past governments of ours - particularly in the middle east at American urging. Both Labour and Conservatives have done this and caused a lot of harm in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. All three ar far worse than they were before as a result.

Not that any government here can be put in the same league as Putin's as far as dictatorship and kleptocracy is concerned. He is in a league of his own. He cares nothing for his own people except to suppress and exploit them. It is pretty clear that about 100,000 of his own troops have been killed in the last two years and maybe half that number of Ukrainians - and for what?

Any politician who poses any kind of democratic threat to his continued rule is either falsely fitted up and imprisoned; poisoned, shot in the street or disappears.

You should watch that film on Iplayer titled Navalny to see what kind of people he has had killed. It is as if Boris, or Sunac ordered the killing of Starmer and had it carried out, or as if any of our past PMs, stole billions to provide himself with private planes, super yachts and palaces. Putin knows he can not lose power because if he did he could no longer suppress information about what he has done and would certainly be bumped off himself. He is a megalomaniac, a thief, a murderer and a monster, and he can not be left to smash up neighbouring countries and turn them into prisons. The Russians did that before to 18 neighbouring countries. They still control some of those, but there are four countries now in the EU that might well come under his pressure after Ukraine fell, not to mention Finland and Sweden which have just joined NATO much against his wishes. Putin had murdered people in Britain and attempted to murder others with clearly attributable poisons. How brazen is that? If you placate gangsters, they take everything you have. The only response which works with such people is to fight back with maximum effort.

Putin subverted the Russian constitution. From memory, I think he was allowed two, four year terms in office as President. He started in 2000. He is still there 24 years later, after rigging several elections, and murdering and imprisoning several credible opponents. He isn't ever the only name on the ballot, but the only other candidates allowed are his own place men.

I can't prove this, but I am inclined after thinking about it to believe the suggestions that Putin has something very nasty to hold over Trump regarding what he is supposed to have got up to on a Russian business trip. It is sometimes called the Steele Dossier and it makes some very seedy allegations about Trump, who of course denies it, but then he denies all the other similar allegations about how he treats women, in spite of his having been recorded on mic after an interview talking about his appalling conduct towards women.

In the hearing, the police said that, mysteriously, none of the recordings on the cameras survived. One said he borrowed somebody else's camera, one said he accidentally deleted the footage and another claimed his camera was faulty after the event. The Judge ruled that the order TR was supposed to have breached was unlawful on multiple counts. Even if the order had been lawful, TR was still exempt from it, so never should have been arrested. Personally, I think that TR was acquitted because of his recent efforts to support a certain community, who seem to hold the trump cards at the moment, not because the legal system suddenly decided to be fair to him.
