Pluralistic: How an obscure advisory board lets utilities steal $50b/year from ratepayers (24 Feb 2025)
They can do that because we don't have enough renewables and battery storage.

Floating nuclear power plants to be mass produced for US coastline
I thought they used to called SeaMines? You know, the big black balls with spikes sticking out!

Bit susceptible to storms, attack, and maintaining those flexible hv power cables will be hella expensive?

Maybe the "Green-est Gap" is the one between their ears? :D Happy Dunkelflaute!
lenny linked an article about how to make better LED bulbs. It is estimated that LED lighting saves about 10% on electricity usage compared to before. Future improvements depend on testing various combinations of semiconductor layers to make up the LED. The author of the paper works on a piece of mathematics that could help manufacturers save on empirical prototyping and testings by predicting which combinations are the most promising. Do you know that LEDs are made with 3 layers, one producing free electrons, one producing electron holes, and the layer in the middle is a structure of quantum wells where electrons and electron holes recombine and emit light. The math piece is to teach students how to calculate the yield given physical and chemical properties of the semiconductive material and the LED's dimensions, voltage and power. Most people wouldn't want to know how stuffs work, fewer would want to know how to calculate the gain. They will just order the LED bulbs on amazon.
I read most of the stuff that you link to before commenting on your post but I reckon you wouldn't want to read this particularly dry article.

they do have a valid point though. Nobody wants a nuclear power stations near their home, so why not put them on a boat? The accreditation regime for nuclear cores for boats is a lot less stringent compared to land based nuclear power stations.

Does that mean chucking dead solar flaps in a blender? :p
Sort of. Perovskite PVs are the future. Recycling them is a must. They reckon their solution recovers 97% useful materials, eliminates 68% toxic chemicals.

Are Electric Cars Really That Much Cheaper to Operate than ICE?
That was really bad. They just cherry picked the costs they wanted to make it favourable for EVs, conveniently missing all the serious costs, like depreciation, repairs, and they were disingenuous about maintenance costs.

EVs would suit taxis, especially for airport runs around here, in Southend-On-Sea.

There will be a period of adjustments needed. It's clear that if you do a lot of miles, EV can be advantageous.
