Can the TSDZ2B mid-drive on your Shangrila secret project X bike be programmed to cadence sensing mode?
It is by default as far as I can figure out. What do you need?

Here's how I reckon it works. There's a low minimum torque to activate the motor. Nothing happens until the pedals rotate as well as getting the minimum pedal force. The motor will give low power, which I estimate to be about 30% maximum as long as you pedal. If you press the pedals harder, the power steps up to a higher level as long as you keep pedaling hard. There's some smoothing on that because you can't feel surging with each pedal stroke.

It's quite a good system and I like it, but it really needs a boost button that would give maximum power with low pedal effort when you want it, like the throttle function with the KT controller. It has a throttle, but it can't be configured to only work while pedalling.

It has 4 levels of assist. I only use the maximum one because its two levels of power are about right for me.

Why would you want to change a pedelec from torque to cadence sensing unless you can't be arsed to pedal?
You're right, I can't be arsed to pedal if it means I turn up to work sweaty needing a shower, and it does. The last thing I want from my bike is exercise! I slow jog for that, far superior exercise in every respect IMHO. If I didn't intermittent fast and slow jog, I'd be as fat as you. Again.

You don't know me so why assume that I am as fat as you used to be? I don't do intermittent fasting or slow jogging & my BMI is 24.5.
I have really gone off cadence sensors. I much prefer the feel of the pedals always having some resistance while pedalling & of course getting a bit of exercise.

Apologies, I mistook you for a blubberous fatso. It's NHS nurses that are usually gigantic lardarses.

I never want to feel any sort of resistance pedalling, and largely don't thank goodness.

EV owners turning on EV owners, couldn't make it up! :)
Wait for another year. Sales of EVs WILL beat those of legacy petrol and diesel in more and more countries as they have done in China last year. Do you know that shares of Stellantis have dropped from $28 to $12 in less than a year? VW and Toyota don't do much better. EVs will continue to be better and better, petrol and diesel will still be stuck at present level of development for the foreseeable future.
People will buy more EVs.

If the firmware could adjust the power so that you get the high power when you pedal lightly, that would solve it for you. You could then use the 4 levels to get lower power when you want it. It would work the same as yours then, but what would be the advantage over yours?
There's no advantage over mine, yours is a trashy and flaky Tongshen, the many anxieties of which owners live with every day, including shaft and screw anxieties. You really should have asked for @Nealh's old more robust and damp-proof BBS01 to install using a KT controller, on Secret Project Shangrila X. There's no rising damp anxiety with the BBS01B. I'm very happy with my setup. With a legal 720W on 20" wheels, the pedals turn easy and assistance starts quickly enough at 30° rotation.

I heard a programme about this on the radio this morning.

Not about electric cars, but about people who are insanely optimistic and convince themselves that things they want to be true, ARE true. The speaker described it as a delusional state that was deliberately entered into by those who were victims of it, who should have known better, and would have, if only they had looked at the evidence.

China is NOT the same as Europe and America. In China, you do what you are told or you will be carted off and shot in the back of the head, before your organs are removed. They buy what they are told to and like it. America and Europe? Not so much. People choose what they want and buy it and if they don't want it, they don't get it. If you opened your eyes, you would see the data from the west. It is nothing like that in China.

UK CAR Registrations in 2024;

Petrol 1,018,128 cars.
Diesel 123,104
Battery Electric 391,970
Plug in Hybrid 167,178
Hybrid Electric 261,398

Electric only cars are 31% of the market. I am sure that people will love them for going about in town on short trips as long as they have off street parking and can charge them at home. If not - they are hopeless. Sixty percent of urban homes have no off street parking so they can not charge at home and are at the mercy of sharks running charging stations, hours of hanging about waiting and absolute impracticability by comparison to traditional cars.

you have not watched as much YT video about China as I do. 49% of car sales in China 2024 are still petrol and diesel and nobody got a bullet in their head for buying them.
What is noticeable though is their cities getting cleaner and quieter.
Each EV sale removes about 20-24 tonnes of CO2 from their cities.

You are like that woman I mentioned the other day. You turned into an eco-fanatic. Next, you'll be joining Just Stop Oil and getting into trouble. She is on trial today at Carlisle for criminal damage. Trial expected to last two days - which is odd... How long does it take to say , 'Lock her up'.
