I have heard so my of you have said sub £1000 bike would made up of generic Chinese equipment. Out of curiosity, how do I recognise which bike contains chinese stuff and which is not, specially the ones that we have discussed in this thread so far i.e. Kudos, Woosh, Burisch, Fast4ward, Cycleezee, Vita Uno, Momentum, oxygen etc etc..

They all uses pretty similar stuff. So, why the price so much differ from each other?
that's the market place. Combination of expertise, local service, designs etc.
The cost of the bike depends mainly on the battery.
On a $700 bike from China, $300 will be spent on the battery, $200 on motor and electronics, $50 on supension fork and brakes, $150 on the mechanical bike. The biggest obstacle to getting a good bike assembled in China is how to obtain premium components from Taiwan.

It's certainly useful to have various of levels of assistance. Cycling on a narrow canal towpath for instance I'd want a much lower level of assistance than when riding on the road. In order to regulate your speed with only one level of assistance you'd have to alternate between short bursts of peddling and freewheeling or use the throttle.

Hi, I agree with your point of getting one extra thing stolen. But thats just one of the optional item in my list anyway, I wasn't so much bothered as long as I can have the other important features I wanted. Now, I had to cross out Burisch from my list due to the fact that it has ONLY 1 pedel assist function which works 15.5mph. So its as good as not having it. because you can do that with throttle anyway. or vice versa. Why create duplication of the same features?? and pay extra. In that regards, vita Uno now gets place into my shortlist, considering 3 level PAS & Throttle, and costs £60 less than Burisch, looks also pretty much similar. I think Vita uno also does not have LCD but a small cheap looking controller.
Personally I would like to see more pictures and a more detailed description of the Vita Uno, the mudguards don't do it any favours, IMO they look cheap and I question the quality of the rest of the bike because of this.
Do you know if this has full throttle?

Hi Alan, drop me a pm with exactly what parts of the Vita Uno you'd like to see and I'll get some images over to you.

Ansmann are German designed and made so the build quality tends to be higher, no doubt why they are confident enough to offer longer warranties.

Otherwise not much known on the bike side in the UK since they've only recently had an importer, but Ansmann are a well known long established battery manufacturer.

Here's a review of an Ansmann for you to read.

Also an article about the company.

So would I be right in thinking that standard Un powered bikes that you get from bikes shops like halfords etc would also be equipped with chinese parts?

Yes, and their complete bikes are usually made in China too. Even Raleigh UK bikes are all made in China apart from a tiny number of specialist bikes they assemble in the UK from largely Chinese parts.

Some other countries are involved in bike manufacture, Indonesia and Taiwan for example, so we can see some bikes from there too.

Even famous Japanese brands like Shimano have much of their manufacturing done in Chinese factories.

So, how can we determine which one is better component than the other?

That just comes down to knowledge of the product ranges from parts makers and whether they are named parts in a bike's specification list.

Take the ubiquitous Shimano bike part ranges. In each category they make differing qualities to cover all market price segments. For example their derailleur rear mechanisms from Wiggle range from the RD-TX35 at £10.39 to the Dura Ace 9070 Di2 at £359.99. They both look about the same and do a similar job. it's just the Ford Fiesta versus Bentley Continental in a different market.
