I've found that with the Bafang motor, the weight issue isn't a relevant as it may first appear. I often ride with a pannier that is as least as heavy as my 14Ah battery, and the difference between this and riding with no luggage is hardly appreciable, apart from on steep gradients.
Admittedly, I live in a rather flat area of the country, but even in EA we have some hills and that the possibility exists that the high current delivery and slower voltage decline of the larger battery may also go some way to explaining my observation. It'll be interesting to see how the Dapu unit compares in the wild when the owner reviews start coming through.
With regard to the marketing stratergy, I think it's nice to hear how the existing models are being refined and improved, as say if you had a friend with a 905, and maybe tried it out, then you might be more temped to buy your own with some new enhancements, as you would already have some frame of reference. This also adds confidence that you are buying a good brand, and that your purchase won't feel obselete in terms of it's technology in a couple of years.
