Yes John, no doubt the range would be greater seeing as it has a bigger battery.
But this power thing has me confused......how fast/powerful do people want their bikes to be ?

My Tonaro enables me to sail up any hill I have encountered so far and cycle along quite happily at 20+ miles an hour without much effort at all.......

or maybe I am just fitter than you and indeed anyone else who thinks Tonaros are underpowered :D

Lynda :)
Driving through the gears with crank units makes the best of the available power for climbing, a circumstance where hub motors frequently use the brute force of higher power instead. Equally quite moderate power will assist a capable rider to 20 mph. The more powerful motors can climb faster, enable less rider input on the flat and generally be better for those with limited cycling capability.

The legal unit differences are quite large, current motor peaks ranging from under 400 watts at the lower end to well over 700 watts, almost two to one. I've owned two legal 1000 watt peak power bikes.

You are clearly happy with your Tonaro Lynda and it does what you want it to do which is great;)

I need to stop pontificating and go and test some bikes.....when I do eventually buy one, will I be a member, rather than a 'new' member?

Ha!

You become a full member when you reach a certain number of posts Lynne, I think it's 20 or 25 posts, so you're about half way there!

Flecc was for a Guru for several years, but was inexplicably downgraded to the status of a mere mortal. However he is still seen by many as a deity and has many disciples:D

I do hope you are finding the forum helpful Lynne, as you must already be aware, threads often vere off at a tangent;)

Lynne, sorry about your MS. My brother in law has MS,it is such a cruel illness. Can I suggest that you visit Christine at All about the Bike, near Manchester, please look on my website for contact details, they represent many different e-bikes and will give you unbiased advice.
We have a new bike named Safari that was specifically designed to be an easy step through and to accommodate a range of different heights and leg lengths . Also out lightweight folder is an easy to use e bike,
Both bikes have a throttle and are good hill climbers.
Hope that helps

I agree with Dave Lynne, Christine has a great range of bikes and will help you pick the best for you.

Try as many different bikes as possible before making such an important decision.

Good hunting,

All the best

David

If you really want to be confused come out here to Eurobike in Germany, the market is so hot out here that everyone is getting into sports bikes and pedelecs. I must say that if I lived in Germany the choice is almost too much. For sports bikes there must be a 1000 slightly different mountain bike frames and specs, how the hell anyone makes a choice is difficult to comprehend.

Local expertise seems to be the stumbling block! I had a great phone call yesterday with Adam from Electric Cycle Centre, and I am sure that if I went there I would find the right bike. The problem being they are in Penrith, I am in Barnsley and it is a 260 mile round trip. Hardly local!

I have decided to approach the South Yorkshire Electric Bike Centre and ask them to get me the bikes I am interested in. They don't stock them according to the website, but I can ask!:D

Hi Lynne,

It is always worth thorough research and some travelling around can help ensure you get what you really want and will often pay for it self in the long run.

BTW, the guys in Penrith are good;), but as far away from you as Milton Keynes:(

Yes Cyclezee... the guys at the Penrith shop are good! Knowledgeable, without being patronising, empathetic rather than sympathetic, and all in all very helpful which is why I have ordered a bike from them.

I am sure though that given time I would have found other equally accommodating suppliers... the people at The Electric Transport shop were also good...but alas Cambridge too flat for me to really try bikes on hills. So I have finally found my bike and a good shop....shame its miles away, but you can't have everything!

Thanks everybody for all the constructive comments...wish I could have visited....Kudos cycles, Buxton, Banbury, Milton Keynes...and a host of other places..
