Shucker, you own a very nice bike. :)

By "trail" do you mean hard packed surfaces, or loose slippery, muddy terrain? I'm only asking, as when I reviewed the e-cross P, I found the OE supplied Schwalbe Mondial tyres to be surprisingly good off road. Slightly unnerving on wet grass descents, but that had more to do with the bike not being mine, and being concerned about the possibility of falling off and damaging it.
The trails I've checked out vary and it hasn't rained recently so the trail's pretty dry but rutted from other bikes - which can make things interesting as it's a little tougher to pull out of them.

I'm still getting the hang of the power assist and it catches me off-guard occasionally. Nothing major, but enough to remind me to keep it on Standard mode more than Max assist when the terrain changes rapidly. I'm used to the eCross' thinner tires since they're there same on my other bike so I'm usually prepared for some slipping on loose terrain and tend to embrace it or even embellish it and make things more exciting. :)

Thanks for your thorough review, it played a factor in my final decision to go with this bike.

Don't forget that dongles don't add any more power. They only release the speed limit. I can't believe that you would get that extra speed when riding off-road, so it would make no difference whether a bike were dongled or not. Therefore, to me, the stories above don't hold water.
Well quite.

KTM's importer tells us it's only dongled Haibikes that are a causing a problem at Cannock, where the staff have suddenly become ebike experts.

KTM's unofficial sales agent tells us his bike is always well received on trails.

Logically, this means all ebikes will be banned from trails except legal KTM ones.

Better buy one, quick.

Hopefully things will soon dry up with the arrival of spring. :)

I recall feeling exactly the same about the tyres as well. As said before, the only time that uncertainty crept in was on a damp grassy descents, but even then I think that was more in my head than anything else.
It's a very accomplished bike, and I reckon that you will have hours of fun with it. :)

Shucker, have you tried the bike much on 'auto' setting? I ride my eLycan on that most of the time and find the power delivery very intelligent, being gentle enough for delicate stuff and giving me plenty of welly when I am excerting the most. :)
Wow, I totally forgot that setting existed. I saw it when I first bought the bike but every time the LCD starts up it is set to Standard and I have only gone down to Eco, forgetting that Auto was a setting lower than that. :) Will have to give 'er a go. Cheers!

lot of hoo har on here.

id go for cheap and ebay chinease for a hub motor.

no offense to KTM but id sack off the entire 250w hub. 250w = 0.2ish hp

my 48w brushless gearless hub and controller etc from china was 200 quid and i get 30mph with good torque (from sla batteries!!!). would be a straight swap onto your bike.

a good 2nd hand bike a good lipo-lifepo4 battery and a cheap hub motor cost around 6-700 quid, but you already have the battery and bike. for the sake of an hour (if that) and some spanner work (literally like 2 spanners) why anyone in their right mind buy a pre assembled ebike for £1000 plus

my opinion is get on ebay blow 200quid, get a set of spanners then an hourish in and your already laughing at "the man"

Ahh! You've got the wrong type of helmet. It seems that you've got the wasp trap type. BMX or snowboarding helmet is what you need. They have the added benefit of making you look like a dude instead of a tw@t.
Hey Dave,
If you are nice to me I promise I won't post a photo of you wearing Steve's helmet at Redbridge;)

Stick it in the helmet dudes thread so that people can see how it transformed me into a funny magnet (if you get what I mean).
