Click "More information" for the level of assistance in each of the four 'MODES'.

A quick look at the latest KTM Bosch powered 29er here in Swindon on Saturday, revealed the stem mounted consul is larger than it appears in the link above. It was also much easier to operate the buttons with gloved hands than the original HMI.

The original HMI had three 'Power levels' which could be selected within any of the four cadence related 'MODES'. This was an overly complicated system which even the self professed Bosch 'experts' had not the foggiest idea how to use to best advantage.

The new HMI, with remote switching which is easy to use with the thickest of gloves is so much simpler. The three power levels have now been dropped, with just four Modes which can be selected on-the-hoof.

For various reasons I did not have the opportunity to ride the machine but, another forum member did. ;) I'll have to try and 'borrow' the machine somewhen to see how the new assistance characteristics pan out on the road.

I test rode various bikes at Swindon on Saturday, loved the KTM Macina Race 29 2013. Frame in the shop too small but great bike. Awaiting on lead times for one that fits my 6'4" lanky body.

Went up to the shop expecting to purchase a BH Emotion cycle, not for me. Very nice bikes and love the integral battery design. However did not give me the feel of a real bike. Can't put my finger on it but the KTM just felt right for me.

Anyway, the point of my post. Not knowing much, if anything about the Bosch drive system, electronics aside. Anyone know what the motor and mechanical arrangement is.

3 phase brushless motor of brushed motor?
Bevel gear,s ?
Maintenance, ie: grease nipples, end float adjustment etc?
Can the unit survive a trip across as shallow stream, ie: up to the axles?
Lastly, the drive unit was very quite. Can I expect it to remain quite after several thousand miles?

Any advice on the drive system along with general opinion of this bike would be very much appreciated.

I will be buying one, assuming the lead time is not months and months and would be more than happy to post feedback when in use.

Lastly, many thanks to Mark at Emotion in Swindon for allowing me to test ride just about every bike in the shop of interest. Absolutely, no hard sell. I look forward to your call.

Bevel gear,s ? Mix - straight cut and beveled.

Maintenance, ie: grease nipples, end float adjustment etc? Units are not user serviceable - they are effectively sealed units.

Can the unit survive a trip across as shallow stream, ie: up to the axles? Yes.

Lastly, the drive unit was very quite. Can I expect it to remain quite after several thousand miles? Yes - in fact they get a little quieter upto 1000 miles.
