Hello everybody.

I am quite new here and was hoping to get someone's advice. I have had my first electric bike for about two years now and I can't live without it. Unfortunately my lion battery has died recently and Halfords no longer sell replacements for this model. Can somebody suggest me some alternatives, please? I am happy to provide more information or pictures of my bike.

Here is a picture of a type of battery I was using up until recently LINK

Many thanks

I have this for my Crossfire-E, works perfectly, same capacity, fits exactly into existing holder, the only difference is that you do not see the battery level in % on the display, but you still see the battery bars level on the display, Also comes with charger and mounting bracket (which you don't need)

Looks like it's out of stock now, hopefully you got the last one!

Yes, that was me. They only had one in stock so I jumped on it straight away :D
Nice one. Mine was shipped from Europe, arrived within a week, hopefully yours too. The charger that comes with the baytery will be euro plug, get an euro to uk adapter. It's possible that your existing charger will charge this new battery (it has the same charger connector) I wasn't sure so I charge mine with the supplied charger just in case

How recently have you bought your battery replacement? I'm wondering what custom charge I should expect on this item given it's coming from Germany

It was last year, post brexit, no import duties or taxes paid by me, you should be fine, they got bigger fish to fry

Thanks mate. The battery arrived last week, and like you've said there was no extra charge. I've charged it up and installed on the bike. Unfortunately now I'm faced with another problem. When I switch on the LCD, Error 21 shows up right away :/

I'll have to look into this and check all connections and wires on the bike. I used to have cut outs in the past, and checking the motor connector wire would usually do the trick and the issue would go away, but this is different.

If you ever came across this issue please let me know.

The Phylion SF-06 battery was available with either a standard BMS or a smart BMS. Yose and other 3P suppliers of these batteries have sold both types over the years; the ones with smart BMS have a small round sticker on the underside saying "With Smart BMS".

AFAIK Halfords bikes have always used the smart type. The power output is the same for both types - Pins 1 and 6 are the + and - rails.. The difference is the standard BMS type doesn't have the centre 4 pins connected, whereas the smart type does - pin 3 is a 5v rail, and pins 4&5 are TX/RX comms to sync with the display.

That may (or may not) be your issue?

Yeah I guess that is the issue... I checked the battery and it doesn't have a smart BMS sticker anywhere :/
Well I guess that taught me something and I learnt something today. I will have to contact the seller and see if I can ship it back to them for a refund. Wish me luck.

Lots of references of Error 21 with Carrera ebikes....was it working fine before the original battery died? If not then I don't think the Error 21 is related to the new battery, most Error 21 are related to the torque sensor, here's an example https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/carrera-crossfire-e21-error.35027/

more info here

Thank you for getting back to me.

Yes, the bike worked fine and Error 21 never showed up before. I had other errors that caused occasional cut-outs (happened maybe 4-5 times in 2 years time). A simple clean and cable check always did the trick. I haven't had one happen in recent months though.

When I installed this battery the Error21 shown up as soon as I switched on the LCD screen.

Thank you for the links, I have read the information. Earlier I went over all the cabling to check if there was any issue but didn't find anything. I can look at the torque sensor and check if that does anything, but as your previous comments suggest, plus the fact the error shown up right away makes me think the battery is the cause, but happy to hear otherwise.

Hi PatW, Couldn't help wonder what you meant when you said your "battery had died". What were the symptoms? Is it not fixable?

The battery that was originally supplied with the bike no longer charges and therefore doesn't power my bike anymore. I'm not sure what you thought it meant

Has it been consedered as to why the battery is not charging? Faulty charger, dead battery cells, wire within battery has come loose, capacitor has failed? All these things are eminently fixable. And it would be much cheaper to fix than buy a new battery.

I wouldn't of recommended the battery to you if I wasn't 100% happy with it working on my Carrera ebik, which is is, I did a lot of research before I purchased so was happy others had this replacement working fine on their Carrera ebikes, and you can see that too from the customer reviews on Aliexpress/PSWPower/Yosepower sites for this battery
Hope you find the cause of the error

What about the Smart BMS thing you mentioned? Like you've said earlier Halford bikes all have it, whilst I bought the battery with a standard BMS. Does that not make a difference in the end? Thanks for all the help.

My original battery has 'smart' bms, the replacement does not, I knew that before I purchased the replacement. As I said the only difference is that the percent value battery remaining is not displayed on the display

Did you check the charger voltage output was ok ?
The battery it self may have an internal charge fuse.
