I suppose other questions might be:

Can the rim be repaired?

Is there such a person as a 'wheel-builder', who might build a wheel around this motor?

Yes
Might be cheaper to buy one pre built, but maybe worth asking

All these mention wheel building, but most bike shops do

The rims on my Batribike Quartz wore through and split . The front wheel contains the Motor and there were no obvious connections to disconnect the Motor wires and remove the wheel .
I contacted C H White of Malmesbury , Wilts and they said to drop the bike in . They laced a new rim to the motor and replaced the over centre lever on the Folding mechanism which they noted was corroding . A few weeks later it was ready to collect , they did an excellent job and the price was very reasonable . I would fully recommend this Family firm who are a traditional Cycle Shop that also sells Ebikes .

That is what I'd prefer, but where to buy such a thing?

Many thanks for the replies!
There's loads, Ali express , eBay Amazon, front hub wheel 20" (or 24") 36v motor. Following the cable back from the motor is there a connector ? Can you unplug and take a photo of bothe ends ?

Thank you ever so much, gentlemen.

I will phone Wight Mountain in the morning, and get the ball rolling from there.

I'll take a photo of the motor and connector later.

Is there any markings on the motor ? Just need to be careful on the motor speed - what's the top speed at the minute ?

Yes, it’s a 20 inch wheel.
The motor is installed upside-down. The cable should exit downwards. It might be an idea to take the side cover off the motor to check whether water has come in before you waste money on a rebuild. At least you be able to re-grease the motor while you're at it.

The problem is not with the motor, which has been excellent for a few years now.
The problem is with the rim.

You don't seem to get it. Let me explain. Firstly, your motor may be compromised, so you pay a load of cash for new rim and spokes then the clutch packs up next month rendering it useless; secondly, it's probably going to be cheaper to buy a whole new motor wheel from China than to get your wheel rebuilt with rim and spokes unless you do it yourself.

I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just giving advice.

Thank you very much.

No, I don't get it.

The motor has worked beautifully for nearly three years. Two bike shops have looked at it, without comment as regards its orientation.

Yes, I would very much like to get a 'whole new motor wheel' - indeed that was my original question, but I don't know where to begin looking for one.

Have you considered rebuilding the wheel yourself with a new rim and spokes, there are a ton of 5min-longer youtube vids on the subject and the special tools needed (a spoke spanner) are cheap.

Spoke sizing is the tricky part, wheel rims can have differing depths affecting the optimum spoke size by a few mm. but amazon prime no quibble returns and next day delivery allowed me to narrow down on the ideal size within 3x buys ;)
And due to the size errors when the right size did arrive a day later i was well practiced and the actual build took no time ;)

true-ing the wheel is also very easy and all you need is the front forks of an upturned bike and some cable ties to make guides from - (watch the youtube vids.. )

It is a fairly complex job but when broken down into steps each is pretty simple ;)

I am kack handed and i managed it ;)
