I used the rim from Colin. I believe he got it from mwmotor Jane. It has been fine for my build and it is so easy to fit the tyre on. The rim is 36h as well.

Pat
Thanks for your answer Patpatbut.

Is it a 349mm rim? And are the tyre easy to fit in? And who is this colin? He is selling these rim for what price?

Thanks Jerry. You are great. If I get the controller from ecrazyman. Am I be missing the connections at the bottom of the photo? How do you re-program the ecrazyman controller without this connections?

Thanks again
Pat
Yes you will need to attach those five wires and get a suitable programming lead.

That is why I got the lyen one for that reason and now just buy the cheaper ecrazyman one.

I'm another 'Brompton e-convertee' with a couple of questions. First I'd be grateful for the details of a) where to get the 16" wheel mentioned in the thread. Please could you PM me the detail too? (I was going to opt for that Sun CR18 unless you can point me in the right direction). That's for building in a Q85 hub .... and ...

The second question, because I'm also toying with the Keyde 80mm motor, but since it's for someone who has a gammy knee and I can't see any point in fitting a pedelec I'd need a controller that would connect to that particular motor's phase wires and without (so I'm warned by Sky Zhang at Keyde) blowing up the motor. Can anyone tell me which colour matches with what controller?

Why can't all phase wires have a common colour code ..... (rant, rant..)

The KU65 and KU63 and many other controllers have automatic phase sequence and angle detection. You'll need a high-speed controller because I heard that it has a 15:1 reduction, which is three times the average geared motor.

Hi Thamosy,

I have PMed you details.

Btw, you do not really need a 36h rim because you can order 28h keyde motor from Sky. In this case you can use the stock brompton rim :D

Yep as stated order the 28H version. The 16" 349 CR18 rims are horrible to get tires on and off. If you want something more powerful then why not order the Tongxin version again which is also available both in the narrower 80mm wide fitting, 28H and I have just been told with a winding that gives you 290RPM :)

Contact Anna email sales@h9.com.cn

Just make sure you specify it when you order. They will also send you a kit with controller, throttle etc. I have now fitted the new hidden wire brake cutout on the Brompton which works well and allows you to use the existing new Brompton brake levers. I will post an update on that shortly.

The ecrazyman controller works perfectly with the Keyde motors albeit that it needs re programming.

Regards

Jerry

Another thanks (boy this forum is amazing). I was going to use the standard Brompton for the Keyde, but if I opted for the BMS Q85 I'll need a 36H rim because BMS tell me they won't do that for the Q85.

I'll try contacting Tongxin directly. I didn't realise they would do a 28H. (And that's probably because I have problems with their website and can't access any details of products without my browser telling me a virus is imminent and then displaying everything in Chinese!).

Thanks for that advice. I already have a KU63 on order, but do you mean I wouldn't need to check the Keyde's phase wires before plugging in?
That's a high-speed controller and it's fully automatic. You don't need to check anything. In the worst case, the motor might go backwards, but then you can swap any pair of phase wires to go forward. I've never known a KU series controller get it wrong, although once or twice, I had to give the motor a nudge to start it the first time.

And now another question about RPM. BMS recommend a speed of 328 for smaller wheels and 201 for larger ones and I'm assuming the faster rotation might be needed to give sufficient speed in a small wheel. Now I recently opted for a 200RPM on a 20" wheel because I thought this would give more torque - and I haven't been disappointed - I'm over the moon at the way I can now climb just about everything. So, given that I live in hilly Derbyshire, what would you recommend?

I believe you live around Cambridge jerrysimon, so what RPM are your e-Bromptons running at?

I do think you need a fast wind motor to give you around 15-16mph. It shouldstill be able give you enough torque to get up the hill for 16inch wheel.

For me I am using SWXB motor with 340rpm. I know it is heavier than tongxin but the torque is so strong and gives me 13-14mph uphill around 10% incline.

I should've added that my 200RPM 20" wheel is a 12T MAC 500 (the options there were 320, 255 or 200 RPM). I worked out that the 200 RPM would give me around 15mph top speed and I'm quite happy with the result - besides, isn't that the legal limit? So, the circumference of a Brompton wheel is ....

Hi there,

I'm going to use the Bafang SWXB (from my Viking Ego bike) too, but I'm struggling with finding appropriate Rim and Spokes (length) for my Brompton. Could you please advice me what should I use and where I can find them. Thanks

They are listed on my thread mwmotor brompton conversion

The source of the rim is not easy to find as you need 36h 349mm rim. If you couldn't get hold the one I got you can get CR18. After that you probably need your LBS to put the tyre on.

This rim is the right one. Putting the tyre on this rim is very difficult but possible. There is a spoke length calculator online.

It is very easy to use. I am using one cross pattern

Just to say that I used the Sun 36H 349mm rim and had no difficulty whatsoever in fitting the Brompton tyre. Maybe it's a tad tighter than some, but there'll be no difficulty if you remember the inner tube needs slight inflation and that a smear of cooking oil on the rim and tyre will help.

It was killing me to put schwalbe marathon plus on. Not sure the standard brompton tyre. Maybe I am too weak to this
