15 amps is too much. You can use the controller providing you can limit it to around 8 amps.

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

If I keep it running the low assiting mode, would that be ok?

Possibly, but I would just get a new programmable controller or shave the shunt down as suggested.

Hi jJerry. Do you know the source for the programmable controller that works well with throttle and pas?

How do I measure the Amp via the shunt? Can I use voltmeter?

Pat
No, a voltmeter will not do. You need a unit that will measure current. Many of us use a wattmeter -- the type that is commonly used in the radio control model world. Go on eBay or Google and search for "rc wattmeter" and you will see many such units you can use for this purpose. These units are connected between the battery and the controller and will display instantaneous current, voltage, power (i.e. Watts), energy used (Amp-hour or Watt-hour). The unit I have is a Turnigy 130A. I have it connected only when I am testing the setup and also when I want to know how much of my battery capacity I have used during a longer ride. For my usual short runs to do errands, I don't bother to have it connected.

Yes as Dave highlights even with programmable controllers you will need to measure the current as they tend to run a little higher than what you set them to current wise.

I initially purchased a lyen controller as it came with a programmable usb lead but now I have that I tend to buy these from ecrazyman

36V 350W brushless controller for E - bike & scooter

the same as the lyen but much cheaper. I use the lyen though as a template for where to put the programmable lead connections and if I need to add cruise control.

I guess if you feel unable to mess about with the shunt or do not want to buy the more expensive lyen one I could get one and program it for you ?

These are the lyen controllers

It the first on on the list I think if you click on it, it links to the write up on endless sphere.

Thanks Jerry.

The idea behind is I have a SWXB motor as well and I would like to make a keyed motor for lightweight conversion by swapping the fork+motor only.

As SWXB needs to run at 15A so just wondering the possibility without changing the controller.

In that case for simplicity I would def recommend a lyen controller as that has a lead wired in so you could just reprogram it (change the current) setting every time you swap the motor.

Remember though that the Keyde motor is sensorless, not sure if the SWXB is a sensor based motor ?

If so then I am pretty sure two different controllers will be required.

I believe that you can run a sensored motor with a sensorless controller but not the other way around. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong ;)

Hi Jerry

SWXB does run in sensorless mode so it should not be a problem.

Do I need to connect the controller to pc in order to change the setting?

Yes you do, I have a Lyen programmable and it comes supplied with a USB cable (if specified at point of purchase) and the software to program. very straightforward.

I purchased a Lyen controller initially incl the usb lead for the computer. Now I that I have that I buy the much cheaper E-Crazyman ones the just connect the lead temporarily on the board pins to program it.

Remember to specify sensorless model if you buy the ecrazyman one as they come sensored as stock.

Hi Jerry

I am considering to have a programable controller. Can you tell me what is the size for the lyen controller and the one from ecrazyman?

I want it to fit inside the ku65 controller box.

Thanks
Pat

Not sure if you mean physical size or power. Basically they are these controllers 36v 350W.

36V 350W brushless controller for E - bike & scooter | eBay

For the ecrazyones if you are using the Tongxin motors make sure you make a note in the payment that you want the sensorless ones or he will send you the sensored one as shown in the listing as standard.

Both the lowered powered lyen and excrazymans controllers are the same but the lyen one comes ready with all the programming lead/plug fitted and the USB lead to attach to the computer. I started with the lyen one to get the USB lead and now buy ecrazyman's cheaper ones and attach the leads using the lyen one as a template.

Lyen controllers and programming leads are available here

This post gives detail of how to program them.

If you want me to measure the physical size of the controller I can do that for you, just let me know.

10.5cm * 3.5cm * 6.5cm. Probably 13cm if you include a flat mounting flanges on the top and bottom end which you can cut off to decrease it to 10.5cm.

Here is the lyen one outside its case which would reduce the measurements even more though obviously for higher currents the heat sink needs to be connected to the aluminum case to help dissipate heat.

Are you still using the CR18 rim for 36 holes motor or anyone have found an alternative? These CR18 are expensive, difficult to source and difficult to put tyres on lol

I used the rim from Colin. I believe he got it from mwmotor Jane. It has been fine for my build and it is so easy to fit the tyre on. The rim is 36h as well.

Thanks Jerry. You are great. If I get the controller from ecrazyman. Am I be missing the connections at the bottom of the photo? How do you re-program the ecrazyman controller without this connections?

Thanks again
