HI
All I thought I would start a new post as my last one wasn't getting anymore replies as it was 272 posts https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/erider-moped-help.41759/page-14

But I now have more problems I just went out on moped, but half way home it went down to 29 Km/h I think thats about 4 mph which is way too low, so I had to push moped into a side road. I tried throttle and it wont do anything, battery was 50.2V so placed it on a stand moved back wheel by hand it turned ok tried throttle and it was still 29Km/h But I could hear like a scaping noise. I think the back drum brakes are binding, I do have a brand new back drum brake with a lock shown below. also I have now ordered a new front drum brake from Erider. do any of you guys here think it can be the brakes binding. I have tried at least 10 motor bike electric bike places but all say they don't repair electric mopeds. But brother said why don't I try a garage instead as they must fit drum brakes for cars.

hope someone can help on this, I cant seem to find anyone who has a Erider Model 15

Go to garage and ask if they will look at your rear drum brake, the fact the bike is electric is neither here or there. The places where you have been to they can't be bothered and are just using it as an excuse to tell you to bugger off.

Hi Nealh many thanks for replying, Yes I have tried at least 10 electric bike shops , and cycle shops. none say they can check moped. But Yes Nealh my brother also said try a garage, as they fit drum brakes on cars, so what's difference on a moped. I do think this is what's happened to brakes, as when I put moped on a stand middle stand I mean. I turn throttle fully open and back wheel don't turn, But if I spin wheel then try it will and speedo gauge says 39 Km/h that's about 26 mph so its obviously the brakes sticking. I have a brand new back brake. and have now just ordered front ones too. so I am ringing around some garages now. a friend told me. to get moped going so I can drive it to a garage is just sit on seat and pull yourself forwards to unlock sticking brakes whilst opening throttle fully to make it go along ok. But I don't think that will make it go. if not I am gonna have to push it to a garage

A good reputable independent garage I would have thought wouldn't turn away a little business even if only for an apprentice to gain some experience.

Is it not job you could turn your hand to ?
Does the wheel feel like it is rubbing or the brakes are on when you turn the wheel by hand ?
Brake shoes are relatively easy to fit.
Remove the drum covering and take a pic of how it is all fitted and then simply replace like for like.

Hi Nealh I wish I was younger, and had say a garage But Im 70 and have bad arthritis in both knees. and live in a 2 story flat, I'm on 1st floor, but have a lockable shed on the ground floor . but there is no where to do moped. plus it would be much easier, if I had a high metal strong bench so moped can be higher up then that would make it much easier. Yes if I had a house with a garage then that's ideal. my brother does, but his wife is a bit funny as last time I was at his fixing moped indicators and front headlamp glass, she kept coming out to garage and saying how much longer you gonna be doing that moped. I think its because she was lonely in house. I thought god. is it a problem. so don't ask brother no more, he also did say well I cant do your moped brakes etc. she has probably had words with him.

sorry I forgot to reply to what you said, back wheel do seem a little bit tight on turning, but soon as you have turned it the throttle is ok then spins at 39 Km/h

Try asking a cycle shop if they can fix a band brake. There a bit different to a drum brake on a normal moped.

It’s a total waste of time asking a cycle shop to do anything to a electric moped. As I have tried at least 10 cycle shops all say they don’t fix electric mopeds

regarding band brakes I have already bought a rear drum brake. And also just ordered a new drum brake for the front from ERider

Any small, independent motorcycle shop will also be worth a try as your brakes are very similar to older petrol mopeds, pit bikes and small motorcycles. Both brakes prob. just need a full strip, cleaning and reassembling and the cables checked, an easy job for a motorcycle mechanic. They will sort your chain out at the same time.

Well would you believe I have tried 11 motor cycle shops and cycle shops all said no. Plus just tried a small garage. Still no. So I’m really stuck now. This garage I tried would have been ideal as I could have pushed moped there as not far from mine. This garage said they have never done brakes on a moped so not experienced at it. I said to them I was told it’s easy. And I can’t do it as I have bad arthritis in both knees but answer was still no. What the hell is up with places don’t they want the work. I now have a front and back new brakes and no bugger to fit them. I wish now I hadn’t bought this bloody moped. I do have more places to ring. But trouble now is back wheel is obviously sticking as it slowed right down to 29 Km/h. Which I think is about 18mph. So had to push it home. And I’m not young 70 it wasn’t too bad pushing it. But when I place moped on middle stand open up throttle back wheel don’t turn but then if I spin back wheel a bit it’s all fine speedo says. 39 Km/h which is about right 24 mph.

I live in a 1st floor flat so 2 lots of stairs. But my brother suggested driving it up 2 flights stairs, he said just use throttle I thought yeah and break my bloody back or what ever. I thought what about bringing it back down. that's well dangerous. so ATM moped is stuck in shed until I can find someone to do brakes.

Never thought it would be so hard to find a garage or someone to fit brakes on a electric moped

Well I’ve had enough of asking around at scooter and cycle shops 18 places and no one wants to help. I live in a 2 story flat so am going to ask my brother if he can help me get it up 2 lots of stairs to my flat. Probably will use the throttle going up stairs. Then when it’s time to take it back down I will remove the battery. I have a few jobs need sorting out on moped. I think going back down will be best to go backwards

Regarding previous message above, about taking it up 2 flights of stairs. Well if brother helps. It’s only 2 lots of steps. At least then I don’t have to rush to get it done in 1 day. Plus I have more jobs to do to moped too. Like remove that annoying alarm. Which is under seat behind controller

Well me and my brother managed to get moped up 2 flights of stairs to my flat, at least now I am in the warm and can work on fitting new brakes. I removed the seat and is this the alarm in yellow it looks like it is as its attached to those 2 white connecters marked in red arrows. if so I will remove it as its so annoying

Yes it’s the alarm ok. Even louder now it’s in the open. Would it be possible later to extend the connector to then fit under seat at least then I could unplug it when it’s not needed just plug it in when I go and park up at shops etc.

Put a simple toggle or rocker switch on the feed wire.
