How true that is, assemble Chinese parts in Germany and there's immediate added value.

However, there is a benefit for the consumer since the assembly standards that result from the thoroughness of German workers are appreciably higher than their oriental equivalents.
The four worst cars we owned were VW's. Yes, I know we're slow learners. We now run a very old reliable Czech car and two lovely Chinese bikes (thanks to Bob!). German standards may have improved a bit over the years ...

Hi All, Its a pity the Japs dont do electric bike, thier cars are pretty reliable. Barrie
Panasonic marketed a bike which utilised their crank drive system a while back. I don't know what happened to it or if it is still available.

Old VWs certainly could be horrors, but their cars today, (which include Czech Skoda of course!) are fine now. My Skoda Fabia was probably the best car I've ever owned for build quality and zero faults of any kind over five and a half years. Still not sure why I ever changed it, perfection can get boring I suppose.

They are a very old established and major bicycle and e-bike manufacturer in Japan, but they only export the electric unit to other bike manufacturers. The one exception I know of was when 50cycles first started years ago and imported the Panasonic Will electric unit equipped folder and the Honda Step Combo folding electric bike.

I'm sure that they marketed a modern looking bike, similar in style to the Pro Connect with the same crank drive. I recall seeing one being used in the paddock by the Toyota F1 team 2 + years ago.

I've quickly tried to locate it using Google but no luck. Must have been a dream.

In Japan yes, but not marketed elsewhere. There were photos posted in this forum about it. In fact they have a couple of sporting models in Japan and their range of bikes and e-bike there is extensive. I remember the Toyota team with them, probably brought in specially.

They are following the same policy with their front hub motor, on their bikes in Japan but sold to other bike makers elsewhere. I think it makes sense, think how many motors fit in a container compared with low added value bike frames.

well the beutiful Scott Sporster advertised by Dealer in Cardiff is not available...Unbelievable this, Scott let them set up their website with all the info then told them they would not be sending any 2011 bikes to the UK!. Probably because demand so strong in Germany....

I have emailed a couple of German dealers to see if they will ship either a KTM or a Scott to the UK...But Belgian dealer (KTM) a lot nearer in case I need to return the bike for any reason.....as we normally visit Europe at least 3 times a year at least....

The search continues.....
