Maybe a thread for 5kw+ conversions?

Have you a link to your shop? A good parts shop in the UK is needed for modders and those who just like to tinker. Local bike shops are not interested and Dave on here has not got a shop . On the 'off road' legal stuff ,unless you are acting the fool ,who is going to notice ?

Ah if he has a shop and Is selling then he needs to declare his trade status and pay his dues.

I've been selling parts on ebay for a while but am now slowing it down in order to concentrate on a new e-bike related venture, with a real life little shop:)

I have various stock which isn't listed but mainly concentrating upon small easy to manage and post parts, rather than kits and motors. I can get hold of Crystalyte products if anyone is interested in a group buy of sorts....

btw the stuff that ive been selling is as more of a hobby, buy 10, sell on 9 in order to pay for my one, sort of thing. Unless you are importing in motors etc via a container boat shipment, there really is no money in it, so stopped with anything bulky:)

They are really useful, would be even better is if they showed the hall and phase combinations. Lots of controllers are self study now and more motors and controllers are showing up with standardised wiring.

Morning all!
Any one else thinking of, or currently building something powerful, please feel free to post any info, pics or questions.

I didn't intend this thread to be about my builds, more of a free for all of ideas related to this sector of e-bike/motorbikes:)

that's a nice weight for a near silent bike, definitely bike, not motorbike. Yours is a reference design for high power ebikes. I am pretty sure that if you limit the speed, it could be made street legal because it does not look overly powerful, would suit London commuters. If it's fitted with a two seater saddle, it'd be perfect for cwah. The battery pack could propel the bike a long way at 15mph.

I was thinking about limiting it somehow to 15 mph for road use.
Ive been playing with a 250w cooled motor design and can now put around 5kw through it. Not exactly economical at those levels but could easily restrict/de-restrict it for a pretty versatile on/ff road ride.

The European Union

Something like this with 250W motors in the front wheels and a 250W crank drive for a total of 750W (1HP).

Yes I do buy a lottery ticket from time to time  the go-one is 8000€

But with that low drag you should be able to cruise quite a long way at 60-70 kph while sipping minimal watts. There is the space for a lot of battery packs! Yes officer I was pedalling...

My "high" power dream machine.

the way I see it, oil cooling is the Achilles heel of high power direct drive motors. It increases drag when you pedal unpowered. The most powerful geared hub motors only clock up 1kw. I wonder if oil cooled crank drive is a better solution.

I was thinking the same and looked into it the other day. I think its been done in RC world but haven't yet tried it. I have a motor on the way from Revolt in Israel, which I may try it it on. One advantage of crank drive, is that its easier t add a heat sink and fan for cooling, rather than on a spinning hub motor.

do you know how much these RV motors cost?

The oil cooled motor that ive seen are RC type, cant find the link at the moment but this sort of thing, pretty cheap.

The motor that im waiting on (for 3 months) is this below

15kw peak for a fairly lightweight and compact motor.
Not sure if it can be, or needs to be cooled but I would have thought so. The best route may be some sort of heatsink which contacts directly to the aluminium frame of the bike???

the published efficiency curve is so flat - about 90% all the way, suggests that the heat problem is not big. So you have to ventilate 500W-1.5KW from that motor. It may need some sort of shielding to stop your legs coming into contact. The wind should take care of that much heat and a fan could supplement that.
I reckon a gearbox like the one in the BBS02 could be OEMed for about $100 from China. May be worth developing this into a kickstarter project. 5kW CD motor for £500?
