Maybe a thread for 5kw+ conversions?

If I go on a diet and loose 3kg, that's the equivalent to carrying an extra 5ah pack in my backpack:)

yours looks better than the Bomber any day, and a lot cheaper too. £3k - £3.5k build?

Ive fitted custom dropouts in order to move the wheel back a couple of inches for a longer wheel base. Also this Crystalyte motor will over heat pretty fast, so will either cool it or use a Cromotor type motor but not too keen on having 12kg's on my back wheel.

Thanks, ill take a pic of it with the side bags for extra battery space.

Not sure of build price yet but yes somewhere around the £3-£4k. If I want to go for 10kw+ using an Adaptto set up, then def towards the £4k+ but it should then be better than a Bomber in almost every way.

Ah but as well as the E type and austins we also have things like the Caterham. A smaller motor applied to a performance package!
So 2 KW could challenge a 5 KW build :-0
The brick like areodynamics of most big engine builds vs the very low drag of the sinner mango.
Can we beat the yanks by not trying there game but going other ways speed and range are possible with lighter more streamlined bikes.

If you realy need more than 5kw then there a a number of good motorcycles out their.

are the wheels tough enough to take more than 5kw?

Absolutely agree, this is the holy grail somewhat, the trade off between performance, economy, weight etc. The law of diminishing returns.
I'm well up for trying to find and push for that, but it takes a whole load of skill knowledge and money to implement.

Maybe a collective British mega bike, to compete with the Yank tanks would be in order. Any rich backers on here??

Cedric Lynch's bike uses an efficient Agni motor and is streamlined for crazy mileage, economy and performance, but i wouldnt like to go around a mx track on it:)

think of carrying advertising stickers of the kind 'sponsored by ????? bikes'
I reckon each sticker is worth £1,000.

That i will be finding out soon!? they are 22" BMX rims which at the moment offers a couple of kg weight saving over using MX motorbike rims.

The hunt is on though for the lightest MX aluminium rim, its just gets expensive.

I'm sure some of you have seen the current cross over happening, mx bikes using DH components to save weight. I'm pretty interested in an electric version, would prob have to go mid drive though.
Battery technology is doing long jumps, so i reckon that electric will soon take over completely.
The controller turning capabilities, along with some kind of suspension quick tune could pretty much mean that you could have a base bike which you are able to change the characteristics of at the flick of a bluetooth phone app.

Exciting stuff

what makes up the bulk of the £4K in a 10KW build? Ive been given an engineless Berkeley microcar and had teh insane idea of electrifying it (but it weighs somewhere aroudn 150kg)

It all adds up and depends upon the range and power you are looking for. Most of the production e-cars lease their batteries, so the owner of the car never actually owns the cells.
A microcar could be made to roll for not much more than a bike build.
If you want full BMS display monitoring of cells etc you'd have to go to town with a sophisticated controller/bms/display set up, or you can do it on the cheap but you need to know what your doing:)

If your after performance then check out Jozzer's build in Brighton...
