Yes I saw that John, certainly better in deep mud.

I just wanted to correct the impression from what Mandy had said that the MPs were slicks, as they have good self cleaning edge treads and a centre tread cut.

I used slick tyres for a while on my commute but found that they were too slippery on mud, and wet grass is even worse. Yes you are ok when going straight but off-road conditions are generally uneven and you have to weave about.

I am now using Continental Cycle Tyres UK which seem to be a good compromise for all conditions and have good puncture protection.
Hi John

I like the look of that tyre and I also like the site and the explanation of use and may well look further into that.
It doesn't state MTB or ATB unless missed that? I wouldn't be surprised, lol!
I suspect it may fall into ATB as looks like it fits the bill for all terrain?
It looks like it has a nice wide centre slick for the roads and good nobbly bits to the sides.

I think my referral to slick on the Marathon plus MTB confused the situation and just feel that the Marathon Plus MTB looks a little bit slick, but not a real slick :) Flecc agreed that as a standard one my tyres had a fairly smooth tread but rightly pointed out the benefits.
I think the next one up with Marathon plus was very much an ATB with an over inflated price and very much looked off roady.
I have to say the tyre you have listed seems to have the benefits I want and may do a bit of research on price.
Thanks for that and will let you know if I order some :)

Lidl have a number of cycling offers during w/c next Monday, including a stirrup pump with gauge for £4.99. Might be worth checking out but offers such as this tend to sell out quickly.
Thanks Ian

I think my nearest Lidl is around 5 miles away and I have seen loads of mention on this site but never been in one of these stores but sound cool.
Even if I don't pick up one of the latest offers it certainly sounds well worth a visit!
Are they open on a Sunday?

I believe Lidl's cycle accessories are available from 7/4/08. Don't forget to check the pump fits your tube valves.

No Mandy, you're not unlucky if you are still using the Kendas that come on the Wisper. I got a puncture in mine after about 160 miles. I recall Aldby had a puncture with his at a similar mileage. The Kendas are not really up to it!

I think what Flecc says is best advice - Marathon Plus and full mudguards - that's what I have on my Wisper but obviously it's your choice, so if you don't mind:
- spending time fixing punctures, you could just stick with the Kendas
- putting a bit more effort in to go slightly slower, then tyres with lots of tread would be fine
- getting you and your bike muddy, don't bother with the mudguards!

Frank
Hi Frank

You are absolutely right and I don't want to risk another puncture and do want to change my tyres, but know when I got mine I sort of ploughed through some glass that wasn't there the day before, big green shards and obviously was not doing my normal early morning scan of the path, probably still half asleep :) So thought I may have been unlucky? Obviously not :(

You are right and I probably do want the moon on a stick but do quite like the look of the tyre John uses and posted the link. Nice wide centre slick but with nobbly bits towards the rim.

Absolutely right about the mud guards :D I like the look of the bike with these mudguards and to hell with the mud!! I will just keep on cleaning, polishing and wearing my water proofs in the wet, lol!

So no to Kenda's, no to pure ATB's but yes to preening and cleaning for the mo anyway :D

Best Regards

Would it not come with adapters? You can probably tell I have only ever used a standard hand pump, however it has a guage, lol!
Thanks for your help

Mandy's MPs aren't slicks though John, they have more centre tread than the Continentals you show:

Hi Guys

The Marathon Plus in the pic is a computer generated one and when I recieved mine it didn't show it as it was and appears so much smoother in the flesh so to speak :)

Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tyre for £21.59 | Schwalbe Tyres - Road City | Cycle | Wiggle

This is a better pic of the same Marathon Plus tyre without so much computer enhancement and shows the tyre to be somewhat smoother?
Don't get me wrong, I just wanted nobbly bits just towards the rim :)
I am just a fussy female, lol!

If most of your riding is on the road, that's the best for it. It's also safer when banked than on knobbly lumps of tread which wobble about when supporting the bike's sidethrust.

Still, it's your choice, and if you don't bank into corners on the road it won't matter as the centre of both is fairly smooth.

I think the marathon and John's tyre's are both good tyres and in the week I guess I mainly use the road but about a third off road.
At the weekend I want to visit our local nature reserve which I really didn't know existed properly until recently. There are some quite deep possibly muddy paths on occasions and guess I want the best of both worlds :)

It's funny really, because when I rode my powerbyke it was a method of getting from A to B, to work and only used it for the shops if needed at weekends.
I may have added a cycle computer and mirror, but with this bike it is different and I actually enjoy my rides on it.
My son thinks I am being a little over the top? LOL! But I love my bike :D
