That's sort of true, true for me. Many people want to use minimal assist (or no assist) most of the time, and just have a little help on the hills. For that style of usage weight remains important.The weight only really matters if you need to lift in into the car, or for storage or if the battery runs out.
Even going up hills will be so easy a bit of bulk isn't noticed.
