Just popped in to Lidl to see if anything left. Was amazed how much choice there was and got myself a few things. The bike hoist looked interesting but has a 20kg weight limit so no good for the wisper.
When I got home the wife pointed out the sale starts tomorrow - I thought it a bit strange that the trolley of cycle stuff was in the store room and that a member of staff kept trying to usher me out :p

I called in at Lidl this morning to load up with treasure. I was there at 8 and there were 4 others waiting for the doors to open! All wanted the cycle gear.

Anyway, I managed to get everything that I wanted. It all seems pretty good at first sight.

It's not payday until tomorrow, there will be nothing left. :(
Fortunately I found out last year that cycling seems to be a middle class thing round here and by driving over to a remoter and officially disadvantaged area the cycling stuff stays in stock a lot longer. :)

The speedometer / bicycle computer I purchased this morning seems OK. Its looks to be of good quality, is radio controlled so no wires. Have purchased one for my second bike (Electro Currie), but may swap it ant fix it on my Ezee Forza.

It has a temperature gauge and plenty of functions to fiddle with as you cycle including a calorie counter.

Lots of fun for £3.90

I bought a few things.
Mini pump £1:99, seems a pretty good design, not used it yet, for that price it's worth a chance.
Saddle bag +toolkit £5:85, this is a good deal, i only discovered what was in the kit when i got home. Screwdriver and allen key set in a pull out metal sleeve (not bad). 2 spanners (crap), chainlink extractor, never ever used one(seems fairly good and strong), puncture repair pads and glue.
Bike computer £3.90. Very disappointed when i was charged £14.88 for the bargain one i picked up and had to return for the cheaper version...bah! still not bad quality though.
Wanted to get a red jacket, but found the colour was more pink than red. Not for me i'm afraid.
Still worth a detour on the way home and loads of stuff still available in my local store.

I saw the pump and it is almost identical to the rubbish one that Wisper have stopped supplying, I wouldn't take it anywhere you need to rely on it.
The toolkit sounds good value, I didn't look at it as I already have everything in that dept. The jacket looks very like the one I got last year, in a downpour you still get wet like with almost all waterproof jackets. I only use mine in very cold conditions, it won't keep you dry in heavy rain but it might keep you a bit warmer.
I spent about £50 in there this morning and came out with full panniers. :)

I forgot the beer though, might have to stop on the way home.

I bought the panniers which seem good quality, quite strong and large enough for all my needs. I like the idea of having two seperate bags with carry handles which are easily removed......perhaps a little too easily removed?

Bagged myself a pair of the cycle shoes, spanner set and the telescopic screwdriver.
However, it will be a while before I can try any of it out.
Had carpal tunnel operation yesterday so off work for a month, could be off the bike about the same time :(

I had a quick look and although they are a bit flimsy they look OK. The fixings look fine and just like the ones on the Wisper luggage, basic but effective.

With all this free publicity, I reckon Lidl should cough up for an advert in this forum. :D

I looked at the luggage but didn't like the sugar bag folding design for the top, I'd prefer a proper fold over and fasten top. It'd be interesting to know if they let rain in.

I didn't look that closely, I thought it was a standard roll top fixing which tend to be very waterproof. Didn't see the point though as the thin fabric clearly wouldn't hold back much on it's own.

We've had cheap stuff from lidl\aldi\tchibo. Its been maybe 25% real bargain, 25% fair, 50% rubbish. You have to be careful what you pick and return it straight away if it doesnt work. Clothes are ok but bike bits seem a bit poor.

PS I'm no fan of goretex. I used to swear by it , but i find its a little out of date now. 1) Its heavy and bulky, which is a pain, 2) Its not durable i've had jackets to prove it. The wicking gets blocked up overtime and its not easily washable. 3) There are more robust cheaper alternatives that are lighter and only marginally less breathable than goretex at its best. 4) I find on a bike, base layer breathability is much mroe important than outer layer. A 'true' cycling jacket outer layer should be breathable by use of cunning venting.
