as a percentage, they don't waste anywhere near as much as our bunch of careerist politicians.
Half of the money goes to redistribution, a sort of common fiscal policy, the EU hand over the other half, £4.5 billions a year to our government to manage. If the money is squandered, our own bunch of buffoons simply kick the blame to the other side of the channel.

I think it's a great idea to have a second parliament and move everything there at a cost of hundreds of millions a year. That really is a terrific way to spend hard earned contributions!!!! . Didn't our PM say he was going to stop that. Another election pledge quietly discarded.

result of the first two weeks of campaigning:

Remainers: 40% (up 3%),
Brexiters: 37% (down 1%),
Undecided: 18% (down 2%).

Still surprising to see the audience of last night's QT remain by and large in favour of Brexit.
I reckon the lack of unity on the Brexiters side did all the damage.
and they should ask Michael Portillo to front their campaign.
The financial signal is clear: the Pound regains from a low of $1.38 to currently $1.43.

I'm surprised that the creation of the word Brexit hasn't had a more favourable effect for those wanting out, given the importance of having such a title for the public to focus on. I thought it would be far more effective, given no equivalent for the other side. Remain just doesn't have the same cachet.

It looks increasingly like we'll have a very substantial vote to remain in, since those who vote at all of the continuing high proportion of undecideds will be most likely to plump for the safe option to remain.

After Boris' caduque edit, the Sun's story did not do the Brexiters much favour.
These little setbacks will pass, confusion over access to the single market did not help. I think it's not too late, Brexiters can still win. The problem is presentation.
The Brexiters need a much more articulate front man than Boris, Chris Grayling and Nick Crafts to win over the undecided. Michael Portillo's my favourite front man.

I agree, but doubt there will be enough agreement to have anyone clearly leading the out campaign, not in time anyway.

So in the end we are likely to get what we have in so many elections, the irony of a few undecideds deciding the outcome.

Indeed, the art, science and language of politics:

"That is not my recollection" means "You are a liar".

"You may have been misled" means, "You're wrong".

And the misuse of good manners and the third party:

"The honorable member may have been misled".

for the moment, before it goes into full fester like the Scottish independence issue did after they lost the election. Now the Brexit types have come out of the woodwork it seems unlikely they'll return there (and Boris has found his hobbyhorse to the top).

I'm pleased he's chosen the out camp, since I think in the end we'll vote to stay in.

And Boris Johnson will have chosen the losing side, not a good place to get promotion from. The political judgements of others are invariably harsh.

And that was a Scottish audience as well.
They gave the SNP guy a real going over and seemed not to want a second Scottish independence referendum either.

After QT, I stayed up to watch Andrew Neil's This Week. Portillo impressed me by his experience and manner. I thought he'd pull a lot more heart strings than brash Boris Johnson.

yikes, I'm (admittedly very) biased, but choosing between boris and portillo is, just, easier for me than say between trump and bush - it feels as if were getting into an era of increasingly terrible dilemmas

Unlike Boris Johnson, Portillo never rubbished the Remainers' arguments. He will listen carefully, then replies. I like his mild manners.

Fast forward to time index 27:50 if you want to listen.

yes he has more substance than boris:

perversely im very glad boris is figureheading brexit, for all his transparent lack of integrity, but portillo would have been better form the point of aview of achieving brexit

I wouldn't take too much notice of that Dundee audience, in the Scottish Independence referendum Dundee voted very strongly for independence, 57% to 43 %, a far bigger margin than the country as a whole.

And in the General Election, the Dundee constituencies had a clean sweep of SNP wins with up to 61% of votes, almost double what the Conservatives got in the whole UK election.

Clearly the vocal members of that audience had an agenda very different from the whole Dundee population.

I see that the government are claiming that 900000 EU migrants have arrived in the UK since 2010. However the HMRC have issued 2.2 million National Insurance numbers to EU migrants during that same period. They are now refusing to allow access to the data giving the full details. Add to this the numbers coming to the UK illegally, helped by lax EU border controls, and you then begin to understand why the health service is collapsing, why school children are being failed, why the police don't visit crime victims in certain cases, why our young people are still living with their parents into their thirties...... Of course, yet again, it's ordinary hard working people who suffer the most from this massive uncontrolled influx of people. The politicians, champagne socialists and guilt ridden privileged classes simply take out private health care, educated their children at public schools, insist that the police maintain the same level of security for them despite cuts for everyone else, buy a house or a flat for their children......

For this one reason alone, which is a disaster already gathering pace, and one which dwarfs all other EU in / out factors, we need to get out. If immigration is such a wonderful thing, why are the government trying to bury the data, frustrate attempts to publish it and vilify those who speak out against Immigration? When do you think that we will see a massive housing development spring up in Chipping Norton to house immigrants? It's as plain as the nose on your face and people must wake up to what is happening. Don't believe the opinion polls either, look how accurate they were at the last election. Like the immigration data, it's being corrupted to make you believe that being anti EU and anti immigration is a minority alien point of view.

I think the 2.2 millions over the last 5 years is much nearer to the truth.
Yes, it seems to add pressure to housing, schools, the NHS but you can take this positively because with an ageing population, we would face even a bigger budget deficit without them.
