hi Martin
I have a haibike 27" sduro hardtail SL with the yamaha motor ( not unfortunately supplied by you as no UK stock in early January )
Looking to go to a slightly larger front ring, yes have a dongle fitted and have viewed your web site but unsure here as to which size is best and will I require a longer chain?
Did read your comment about the chain guide needing modification etc and will I need any specialist tools to fit the ring gear.
Not worked on a cycle since the 70s though not mechanically stupid and know when the Haynes manual shows three spanners they mean use the largest hammer you have available ( ex aviation engineer )
Thanking you in advance

His Response
Hi Martin,

Thanks for your email.
Obviously our after sales support / advice does not extend to cycles not purchased from us. Contact your place of purchase for any information required.

My response

Hi Martin
If you remember you would have been the supplier but in early January you said you would not have the haibike in the 45cm frame size until the end Jan 2015.
I thought everyone on this forum had a common aim including dealers to further the sales and promotion of e bikes for all concerned to get to the levels seen on the continent.
seems i'm wrong!!
I only shopped elsewhere ( Germany for your info ) for immediate availability not price
and you have them listed on your site do I take it you only supply any parts to ebikes you have supplied.

Hi Martin,

You'll have to give us a little more than 14 minutes to respond to your PM. We are extremely busy here.

Yes we have the generic parts listed on our site. You are more than welcome to order form there. The Yamaha / Haibike specific parts are in stock but not listed as these are reserved exclusively for our customers.

Nope totally not wrong, but by buying of the continent, you obviously understand we're not here to support you, this is your dealers job.

I wouldn't order a TV on the web direct from China, then contact Curry's for some support further down the line.

It's all about allocating time to looking after our customers. Something that we do excellently. You can read more about this on our FAQ here.

You'll also find this very boldly stated across our website, we try to make it as clear as possible.

All the best
Martin

I bought a ring from Martin for my Rose/Bosch bike.

Blackspire is a top make, excellent quality and the ring is light as a feather.

The lightness is a bit wasted on an ebike, but the quality isn't.

Hi Martin
Take all the time you need to respond.
The last time I looked were all in Europe and with European warranties etc or maybe the UKIP's have already made a move I do not know of.
Not a very good example comparing Chinese TV's with and contacting Curry's.
I notice on your FAQ you supply outside of the UK so guess you make the rules up as you go along. its your shop and fully appreciate that you can choose to sell who and whom you don't wish to sell to. I'm in leasing and if I chose to sell to only customers I like it would half our sales.
Unfortunately I guess I'm not in your fortunate financial situation.

I live outside of the UK, how do I purchase?
"No problem, we ship all of our products worldwide".

All I wanted to know in essence so as to buy from your glorious site is what tooth number and chain length would you recommend.

Maybe I have the wrong trousers on to be a customer of your luxury accessories, please let me know.

I am a Newbie to the Pedelec/Ebike scene and have found everyone here to be most helpful and understanding so far and a little verbal debating never hurt anyone.

Looking forward to your response

I've never agreed with Martin's policy of not being willing to offer support to non bike purchasers, but respect the reason why he doesn't. It would really grate having to do so, if I was in his position.

Personally though, I see not doing so as being short sighted, as that person that requires help, could be your next bike purchasing customer.

I don't see or agree with the need to air your comments between yourself and e-bike shop though, and I'm not sure what you hope to gain by it. It won't be support from others.

Hi Eddie
I do agree with most of what you say and would have been a customer if he had the haibike in stock.
Not really looking for support but advice as to front ring size and chain length quite clear in the title I thought

I'm not sure about the Yamaha motor, but the chain ring on the Bosch motor is a standard bicycle part.

If the Yamaha is also standard, a competent bike shop should be able to sort it.

The Yamaha chainring looks pretty standard to me. Can't you get one from Ebay and save yourself some dosh? I bet that you can get one for half of Martin's price. How many teeth have you got and how many do you want? Are the bolts on a 104mm diameter, which is the most common size?

Hi Martin
I want to buy a bike. Will you spend time and money supporting others who didn't buy from you?
I know this will increse the price I have to pay but it's ok as I don't mind paying for others?

Love and kisses

I can see both sides here but it reminds me of a few Christmas's ago when I poped into my local RC hobby shop, it was inundated with people.
Most were new to the hobby and this shop, having had RC trucks from the bay as christmas presents they now found they couldn't make them run correctly or needed spare parts.
The shop owner had tried telling some that he can't spend time sorting out there problems for free and he only carries spares for vehicles he sells.
in the end he gave up and the following day there was a big sign on his door, it read something like, if you didn't buy it here I ain't fixing it

So yes I can see both sides, anywho I'm off to the shops now to spend some of the many "Thanks mate I owe you one " that I've been saving.

Spa Cycles in Harrogate has an old-fashioned attitude to repairs.

"If you bought it here, we fix it here.

"Repairs to quality lightweight or touring bikes and repairs to bikes belonging to good customers are likely to be accepted.

"We don't deal with BMX, full suspension or cheap poor quality bikes of any description.

"Labour in the workshop is charged at £36 an hour."

Remember I was looking to buy parts listed on his site and would originally have purchased from martin@ebike but he had no stock.
The only advice I originally wanted was ring size and chain length.
Others here are very helpful and I have now also bought these elsewhere at much cheaper prices.
Was a little surprised to receive such a blunt reply from another forum member.
It's not needed and in my experience what goes around comes around.

Yes correct, you didn't buy a bike from us.

The only advice I originally wanted was ring size and chain length.
Of which info is clearly listed in the product description of our website, Snipped from the part listed on our site here:

Also fits the new Haibike sDuro line up with Yamaha motor. Please note with the Yamaha, don't order too big as the front mech may not be able to handle it. We recommend going no bigger than 46t on the dual ring setup. Also on the single ring setup you will have to remove / modify the plastic chain guide if you choose to go bigger than standard.

Please Note: If going for a bigger sprocket on the front you may have to extend your chain.
I bet the Chinese man you purchased from on eBay didn't go to such great detail.

Was a little surprised to receive such a blunt reply from another forum member.
Again its listed all over our website. Our support / time is allocated to our customers.

Anywho, glad you have the part sorted now.

Very interesting the way you take things out of context Martin.
I guess you also think in primary colours.
I like primary colours. Blue is my favourite.

But where did the, quote
"I bet the Chinese man you purchased from on eBay didn't go to such great detail"
Are you suggesting you can get Haibikes or accesories from China if so please let me have the details.

Note I did try to buy/purchase from you.
Though you only say I didnt.
How hard do your possible customers have try to be successful buyers.
Either you have stock or you don't.
Please don't show your ignorance over a common language as you will have no defence.
Happy to continue this debate in old English or Latin or any mother tongue you may speak.
Please bear in mind.......try to keep a bit of fun involved.

"not for us to comment on the rights of wrongs or anyone else's business decisions..."
Indeed... be assured through the eyes of a punter it doesn't look nice.

Anyhowz... I bought a Haibike bike off Martin at ebike shoppe and if it went wrong I would expect him to give me a fair, efficient, client based service which is less likely to happen if he spends his time placating those that have chosen to shop elsewhere for what ever that reason may be.
People make mistakes when purchasing, what may seem a good idea at the time may turn to regret should a problem occur.
People like to whinge... it's therapeutic.

On the subject of therapeutic, I must have been riding the Haibike almost 2 years now through all winds and weathers, on roads + trekking over the South Downs and the thing that really really bloody annoys me is that it hasn't gone wrong.
Worse, it's not even hinted at going wrong.

I'd love to come on this forum and say what a piece of German dung it is and slate it but I can't.
I blame Martin.
Phil

Hi phil
If you read my original posting then you will have known I'm neither looking to whinge or needing placating.
Though a little love on occasions is appreciated.
Like you....though I have only owned my Haibike for just over two months and 400 miles I have been totally delighted and would recommend one to anyone.

I was only looking for advice about the ring gear and chain which he advertises on his public web page not realising these are reserved for special people.

My wife says I'm special but martin@ebikes obviously does not.
